A material web having a film layer and a nonwoven layer, along with methods of making the material web, are described. The material web has a plurality of micro-deformations and a plurality of macro-deformations, each of the macro-deformations having a distal end, wherein a first portion of macro-deformations has an open or partially open distal end and wherein a second portion of macro-deformations has distal ends which are configured differently than the distal ends of the first portion, and wherein the material web forms a portion of the topsheet.

A film particularly suited for use as a transfer layer in an absorbent article has a plurality of capillaries and a plurality of drains, said capillaries comprising side walls depending from a female side of the film and terminating in an aperture on a male side of the film; said drains comprising side walls that depending from the female side of the film and terminating in an aperture on the male side of the film, wherein the drains are disposed at an obtuse angle relative to a base plane of the film.

A multi-layered material, in particular for hygiene/sanitary products, has an outer surface shaped so as to have a plurality of recessed areas and at least one embossed area which is arranged alongside the recessed areas and protrudes with respect to the recessed areas so as to define a thickness greater than the one at the recessed areas; each of the recessed areas has a plurality of through holes; the multi-layered material has a first and a second layer, whereby the through holes pass through both said layers; the second layer is a non-woven fabric, while the first layer defines the outer surface of the multi-layered material and is a plastic film having a plurality of protruding micro-portions that are provided at least at the embossed area and protrude outwards from the remaining part of the first layer along said outer surface.

A laminate web having a polymer film layer and a nonwoven layer is disclosed. The polymer film layer makes up a first side of the laminate web and the nonwoven layer makes up a second side of the laminate web. The laminate web has a plurality of first elements extending from the polymer film. The web also has a plurality of second elements such as recesses, protrusions, apertures, embossing and combinations thereof.
