In one embodiment, the method comprises administering to the subject a therapeutic amount of decidua stromal cells (DSCs). In some embodiments, the coronavirus disease is SARS, MERS or COVID-19. The method of the disclosure can be used to treat a subject who has acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), acute lung injury (ALI), or both.
