The link provides both the connection between the tray table and carriage for positioning the tray table horizontally along the rail and the pivotable connections between the tray table, link, and carriage for adjusting the tray table vertically, perpendicular to the rail path. Thus, the tray table assembly may be hidden in the alcove in a stowed position, partially deployed with the tray table vertically offset from the carriage, fully deployed with the tray table outside of the alcove, and any position in between.

The guiding means includes a second portion adapted for guiding the connection element to and from a first portion. Guidance is performed in a linear manner or in a rotational and linear manner, in relation to the first part. A spring is fixed between a connection element and an anchor pin on the first part.

An elevation hinge where one of the parts moves in connection to a guiding means on another part, and wherein a supporting effect is achieved on an elevation of said moving part. The elevation hinge comprises a first part including at least one guiding means, and a second part including at least one connection element for guiding the second part along the at least one guiding means. The guiding means includes a second portion adapted for guiding the connection element to and from a first portion. Guidance is performed in a linear manner or in a rotational and linear manner, in relation to the first part. A spring is fixed between a connection element and an anchor pin on the first part.

An accessory device for attachment to a folding step ladder includes a square or rectangular receiver frame that hingedly attaches to the top end of the ladder and a tray that is removably supported within the receiver frame. In a preferred embodiment, the receiver frame is attached with two or more hinges to the ladder and includes collapsible pivoting support arms on opposite sides extending between and connecting to the sides of the receiver frame and the ladder. In use, the receiver frame is supported horizontally, extending out from the top of the ladder, and is held by the support arms that lock into an extended position. When not in use, the receiver frame is folded down and collapsed against the side of the ladder for transport and storage.

Generally speaking, these components are structured such that the one or more magnets are attached to a tray mounting end of the articulating support arm and the removable tray is magnetically fastened to the mounting end of the articulating support arm in a flat, planar configuration that allows a user to place various objects such as art tools or surgical tools. The articulating support arm also has a base end that is used to fasten the system to a flat surface such as a table top.
