A basecutter and a method for controlling a basecutter are described for a sugarcane harvester. A basecutter may include a cutting spindle, a transport spindle, at least one power source configured to rotate the cutting spindle and the transport spindle, one or more cutting blades attached to the cutting spindle, and one or more transport devices attached to the transport spindle. The cutting spindle or the transport spindle may be configured to rotate within the other. The cutting spindle and the transport spindle may be rotated at different speeds by the at least one power source. For example, a controller may determine a cutting speed for the cutting spindle and a transport speed for the transport spindle and control the at least one power source to rotate the cutting and transport spindles at the cutting and transport speeds, respectively.

A basecutter assembly for a sugarcane harvester includes a cutting spindle powered by a first power source, and a transport spindle powered by a second power source independent of the cutting spindle. A torque sensor is coupled to the cutting spindle. A harvester controller defines a target cutting torque value for the cutting spindle based on a desired crop cut height and determines a current cutting torque of the cutting spindle while cutting the crop. The harvester controller may then control a height of the cutting spindle relative to a ground surface to maintain the current cutting torque substantially equal to the target cutting torque value to achieve the desired crop cut height.

A mower that discharges cut turfgrass forward and includes a plurality of wheels, a cutter blade that cuts turfgrass, and a blade accommodating section that accommodates the cutter blade, in which the blade accommodating section is located rearward of front wheels in a traveling direction and includes a grass catch member having an upper surface on which turfgrass cut by the cutter blade stays.
