A chamber included in the closure that is defined by a set of walls including a pair of sidewalls. The pod includes a holder and a wrapper fully enclosing the holder. An exterior of the pod is defined by the wrapper and when the pod is received in the brewer the exterior is punctured.

A capsule containing a substance for the preparation of a potable beverage. The capsule comprises an aluminum capsule body having a side wall and an outwardly extending flange and a sealing member at the outwardly extending flange for providing a fluid sealing contact with an enclosing member of a beverage preparation device. The beverage preparation device comprises an annular element having a free contact end which may be provided with a plurality of radially extending open grooves. The sealing member is integral with the outwardly extending flange and comprises at least one projection projecting from the outwardly extending flange. A decoction device for an extraction apparatus, in particular for preparing espresso, comprises a decoction chamber (7) enclosed by a chamber wall (5) for receiving a quantity of powder therein. The decoction chamber is situated between a first chamber bottom (20) and a second chamber bottom (30). The first chamber bottom (20) is coupled to a linear actuator and is axially movable in the decoction chamber so as to compress the powder to a bed. A drive is provided to impose a relative rotation between one of the chamber bottoms and the chamber wall as the chamber bottoms (20,30) approach each other. The respective chamber bottom (30) is for this purpose rotatable within the chamber wall (5) and the drive is able and configured to impose a rotation thereon during an approach movement of the first chamber bottom (20). A slip coupling (60) is provided in the transmission.

A flip lid coffee machine includes a base body, a holding container, a cover pivotally connected to the base body, an actuator, an image sensing camera and a control device. The cover has a pivot end, a free end and a cutting membrane structure arranged between the pivot end and the free end. The invention relates to a cartridge system (1) for producing a beverage in a beverage preparation machine, comprising a cartridge (2) that has a reservoir (6) filled with a beverage substance (7), and a cartridge receptacle (10) that can be reversibly connected to the cartridge, said cartridge receptacle (10) comprising a mixing chamber (8) and a cartridge discharge device (34) which causes at least partial transfer of the beverage substance (7) from the reservoir (6) into the mixing chamber (8), the cartridge receptacle (10) comprising a fluid supply (12) which opens into the mixing chamber (8). Aspects of the present disclosure comprise methods and apparatuses for multiple fluid flow delivery within beverage systems. Such control may be with external inputs and may be remotely controlled from a different geographic location. Such methods and apparatuses, in certain aspects of the present disclosure, may also provide a second and/or third liquid.

Disclosed is a system for producing a beverage, in particular a cold beverage, comprising a cartridge that has a reservoir filled with a beverage substance, a beverage preparation unit with a cartridge receptacle into which the cartridge can be reversibly inserted, and a cartridge discharge device which causes at least partial transfer of the beverage substance from the reservoir into a mixing chamber; furthermore, the beverage preparation unit comprises a fluid supply which opens into the mixing chamber, or the system includes a movable plunger which is placed inside the reservoir and can be transferred from a starting position into a final position by means of the cartridge discharge device.

A beverage dispensing system that can dispense both cold and hot drinks from either cold drink capsules or hot drink capsules. The cold or hot drink capsule is inserted into the system, and the lid is manually closed. if a cold drink capsule has been inserted, a mechanism cracks the capsule along a predetermined seam, injects cold mixing fluid into the capsule, and then rotates the capsule to pour out or further flush out the cold drink into a cup. If a hot drink capsule has been inserted, the lid is closed, and a rotating needle pierces the top of the capsule. The capsule is then punctured from the bottom. Hot water can then be injected into the top of the capsule, and the hot drink can be removed from the bottom into a cup.
