Systems and methods for distraction
A system for moving a portion of a patient's body including a housing having a first cavity extending along a longitudinal axis, a first distraction rod having a proximal end and a distal end, the first distraction rod and the housing being telescopically displaceable with respect to each other along the longitudinal axis, the first distraction rod having a cavity extending along the longitudinal axis, a second distraction rod having a proximal end and a distal end and configured to be telescopically displaceable from within the second cavity along the longitudinal axis, and a drive system configured to move the first distraction rod in relation to the housing and to move the second distraction rod in relation to the first distraction rod.
VARIABLE-DIMENSION FIXATION ROD AND IMPLANTABLE STABILIZATION SYSTEM INCLUDING A VARIABLE-DIMENSION FIXATION ROD
An implantable stabilization apparatus stabilizes a portion of a skeletal structure of a living patient. The implantable stabilization apparatus includes an elongated fixation rod that includes a plurality of different rod regions having different cross-sectional dimensions are aligned along a longitudinal axis of the fixation rod. A transition region integrally formed as part of a common monolithic structure with the different rod regions is tapered, and separates the different rod regions from each other along the longitudinal axis of the fixation rod. A fastener system couples the elongated fixation rod to the skeletal structure. The fastener system includes an anchor that is to be secured to the skeletal structure, a saddle coupled to the anchor, and a locking member that maintains cooperation between the saddle and the portion of at least one of the different rod regions interfere with separation of the fixation rod from the fastener system.
SOFT STABILIZATION ASSEMBLIES WITH PRETENSIONED CORDS
A soft dynamic stabilization assembly includes a core, typically in the form of a tensioned cord, at least one pair of bone anchors, a spacer surrounding the core located between the bone anchors, typically, at least one elastic bumper and at least one fixing or blocking member. The core is slidable with respect to at least one of the bone anchors and cooperating spacer.
FUSION SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF ASSEMBLY AND USE
The present invention discloses fusion systems and methods of assembly and use. The fusion systems include a first fastener, a second fastener, and an elongate member with a first end and a second end. The first end being secured to the first fastener and the second end being secure to the second fastener. The method of assembling a fusion system and methods of using the fusion systems are also disclosed.
Orthopedic fixation devices and methods of installation thereof
The present invention is generally directed to orthopedic fixation devices that comprise a coupling element and a bone fastener, whereby the bone fastener can be loaded into the coupling element through the bottom of a bore in the coupling element. The orthopedic fixation devices described herein can include modular locking clamp assemblies that can be fixed onto fasteners that are already implanted in bone. The modular locking clamp assemblies can include polyaxial locking clamp assemblies, as well as monoaxial locking clamp assemblies.
MAINTENANCE FEATURE IN MAGNETIC IMPLANT
A distraction system includes a distraction rod having one end configured for affixation to at a first location on patient. The system further includes an adjustable portion configured for placement in the patient at a second location, the adjustable portion comprising a housing containing a magnetic assembly comprising a magnet, the magnetic assembly secured to a threaded element that interfaces with an opposing end of the distraction rod. The system includes a magnetically permeable member in proximity to the magnetic assembly and covering an arc of less than 360 of the adjustable portion.
Dynamic spinal stabilization with rod-cord longitudinal connecting members
A dynamic fixation medical implant having two bone anchors includes a longitudinal connecting member assembly having a transition portion and cooperating outer sleeve, both the transition portion and sleeve being disposed between the two bone anchors. In a first embodiment, the transition portion includes a rigid length or rod having apertures therein for tying or otherwise attaching the rigid length to a second rigid length or to a flexible cord. Slender ties or cords extend through a plurality of apertures in the rigid lengths or are threaded, tied or plaited to the larger flexible cord or cable. In a second embodiment, a transition portion includes slender ties of a cord that are imbedded in a molded plastic of a more rigid member. The sleeve surrounds the transition portion and extends between the pair of bone anchors, the sleeve being compressible in a longitudinal direction between the bone anchors.
System of a rod insertion device and a rod
A system for spine surgery includes a rod with a longitudinal axis and a connection portion, and a rod insertion device including a rod holding member with a central axis and a rod engagement portion, wherein at least part of a shape of the rod engagement portion substantially matches at least part of a shape of the connection portion to engage the connection portion in a fixed manner at more than one distinct rotational orientation around the longitudinal axis. When the connection portion is engaged with the rod engagement portion, when viewed in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, a cross-section of the connection portion has a maximum height measured in a direction of the central axis of the rod holding member that is greater than a maximum width of the connection portion measured in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis.
Bone anchor receivers with outer horizontal extending tool-engaging structures
A method of securing a rod to a receiver via a closure top. The receiver is configured to be used with a bone anchor and includes a pair of upright arms that define an open channel configured to receive the rod, a discontinuous helically wound receiver guide and advancement structure formed into the interior surfaces of the upright arms, and horizontally-elongated tool-engaging structures formed on the outer surface of the upright arms. The method further includes positioning the rod within the open channel of the receiver and securing the rod to the receiver by threadably advancing the closure top to secure the rod and within the receiver body of the receiver. The method further includes rotatably attaching a lower end of a tool to the receiver.
