Percutaneous compression and distraction system

The present invention provides a compression and distraction shaft assembly used to apply compression and distraction to bones including vertebrae. Shaft A assembly and shaft B assembly are attached together via a polyaxial fulcrum. The polyaxial fulcrum allows all rotational degrees of freedom between shaft A assembly and shaft B assembly. Such fulcrum, during compression and distraction, does not impart ancillary stresses or motion to vertebrae. An hourglass-shaped bore for engaging pliers is formed in approximately middle of both the shaft A assembly and the shaft B assembly. Distraction pliers having cylindrical tips are used to apply distraction to vertebrae. Once handles are pressed to impart an appropriate amount of distraction to the vertebrae, they are locked in this position. Compression pliers having cylindrical tips are used to apply compression to vertebrae. Once handles are pressed to impart an appropriate amount of compression to the vertebrae, they are locked in this position.

Disclosed herein are embodiments of a system and embodiments of a method for stabilizing spinal vertebrae through a skin incision. In some embodiments, the system or method can include a first screw having a first screw head, a second screw having a second screw head, and a third screw having a third screw head, a first tower having a distal portion, a proximal portion, and a bend between the distal portion and the proximal portion, a second tower having a distal portion and a proximal portion, the second tower configured to be removably coupled with the second screw at a distal end of the second tower, and a third tower having a distal portion, a proximal portion, and a bend between the distal portion and the proximal portion.

Remote spinal manipulating assembly and method for remote spinal manipulation

An assembly for remotely manipulating a patient's spine. A compressor/distractor mechanism attaches to spinal anatomy or vertebral screws on adjacent vertebrae at a spinal surgical site on a patient's spine. A flexible cable is operatively connected to the compressor/distractor mechanism and to a control mechanism. The control mechanism manipulates the flexible cable, controlling the compressor/distractor mechanism to compress or distract the vertebrae. A rotatable surgical table with a remote control can be used in place of the compressor/distractor mechanism and the control mechanism. The rotatable surgical table can rotate the patient to place the spinal surgical site in a desired compressed or distracted position, and to place the patient in a desired orientation with respect to a horizontal reference plane. The assembly permits manipulation of the spine at the surgical site via a posterior approach, while the surgeon can also manipulate the spine at the surgical site via an anterior, lateral or oblique approach.

Spinal alignment frame

Disclosed is a surgical alignment and distraction frame and associated methods of use that facilitates correction of a sagittal imbalance. The alignment and distraction frame works in conjunction with pedicle screw installation guide assemblies to impart the desired correction. The alignment frame can be utilized to ensure the pedicle screw housings are aligned (to facilitate rod coupling) in concert with the completion of a correction maneuver.

Transverse coupling for surgical implant extensions

A transverse coupling for connecting multiple implant extensions includes at least a first sleeve and a second sleeve. The first sleeve defines a first aperture adapted to axially receive a first implant extension through the first aperture. The second sleeve defines a second aperture adapted to axially receive a second implant extension through the second aperture. The transverse coupling also includes a central housing. A first shaft connects the first sleeve to the central housing, and a second shaft connects the second sleeve to the central housing. The central housing includes at least one joint for connecting the central housing to at least one of the first and second shafts in a movable arrangement that allows the shaft(s) to move through one or more degrees of freedom relative to the central housing.

LEVER REDUCER

Embodiments of a lever reducer and methods of using a lever reducer are provided. In some embodiments, the lever reducer system includes a first tower, a second tower, and a lever reducer configured to couple to the first tower and the second tower. The lever reducer can include a fulcrum configured to be coupled to the first tower and a swivel configured to be coupled to the second tower. The lever reducer is configured to vertically lift the second tower. The method can include coupling a first tower to a first vertebra, as well as coupling a second tower to a second vertebra. The method can include coupling a lever reducer to the first tower and the second tower by coupling a fulcrum to the first tower and a swivel to the second tower. The method can include applying a force to the lever reducer to vertically lift the second tower.
