RATCHETING RAPID ROD REDUCTION INSTRUMENT

Spinal surgical procedures can benefit from a rod reduction instrument with a ratchet lock-out mechanism. The instrument can include an inner sleeve, a first housing portion, a second housing portion, a plurality of engagement members, and a ratchet mechanism. The inner sleeve can include a threaded proximal portion and a distal end. The first housing portion can be positioned over at least a portion of the inner sleeve. The second housing portion can be positioned proximate to the distal end of the inner sleeve. The plurality of engagement members can be adapted to receive a pedicle screw, and are positionable within the second housing portion. The ratchet mechanism can include an engagement feature to selectively engage the threaded proximal portion of the inner sleeve, and a locking mechanism to selectively lock the engagement feature of the ratchet mechanism against the threaded proximal portion of the inner sleeve.

The present invention relates generally to medical devices and methods generally aimed at spinal surgery. In particular, the disclosed system and associated methods relate to performing spinal fixation with the use of a deformity system.

Spinal fixation system

A polyaxial pedicle screw includes a housing, a bone screw member, and an anvil. The bone screw member includes a head and a threaded shaft extending from the head. The head is selectively securable within the housing. The anvil is positionable within the housing adjacent to the head of the bone screw member when the anvil and the head of the bone screw member are positioned within the housing. The anvil may define one or more grooves in an outer surface of the anvil. The groove defines a flap that is flexibly attached to the anvil to enable the anvil to flex an amount sufficient to maintain the head of the bone screw in constant contact with the anvil when the bone screw member is moved relative to the anvil. A rod reducer may be secured to the polyaxial pedicle screw to secure a spinal rod within the housing.

LEVER REDUCER

Embodiments of a lever reducer and methods of using a lever reducer are provided. In some embodiments, the lever reducer system includes a first tower, a second tower, and a lever reducer configured to couple to the first tower and the second tower. The lever reducer can include a fulcrum configured to be coupled to the first tower and a swivel configured to be coupled to the second tower. The lever reducer is configured to vertically lift the second tower. The method can include coupling a first tower to a first vertebra, as well as coupling a second tower to a second vertebra. The method can include coupling a lever reducer to the first tower and the second tower by coupling a fulcrum to the first tower and a swivel to the second tower. The method can include applying a force to the lever reducer to vertically lift the second tower.

A surgical system comprises at least one implant support including a first implant support that is engageable with a receiver of a first fastener having a shaft fixed with vertebral tissue. At least one adaptor includes a first adaptor extending longitudinally along and being engageable with the first implant support. The first adaptor is rotatable relative to the first implant support to connect the first implant support with a surgical instrument to manipulate the vertebral tissue. Surgical instruments, constructs, implants and methods are disclosed.

A clamp assembly for orthopedic use having a housing that includes a top surface, a recess, a distal base and a bottom surface, the recess defining a longitudinal axis and extending through the housing from the top surface through the distal base and toward the bottom surface, and at least two through slots, each one of being disposed at a bottom or a side a surface of the housing. The assembly including a securement assembly positionable within the recess in a co-axial relationship to a mating surface on the recess, and a band sized for travel along a predetermined path defined in part by the through slots in the housing, wherein at least one of the through slots is a starting point for travel of the band along the predetermined path.

ELASTIC MEMBER CLAMPS

The present application generally relates to orthopedic stabilization systems, and in particular, to systems including clamps. The clamps can be used in addition to or to replace hooks that grasp onto bone members, such as the lamina. One example of such a clamp is an in-line clamp that includes a central opening for receiving a rod member, a first opening for receiving a set screw and a second opening for receiving an elastic member therethrough. Another example of such a clamp is an off-set clamp that includes an upper plate, a bottom plate, and an opening for receiving a rod therein. The upper plate can be separated from the bottom plate to make space for an elastic member that can be secured within the plates. Tulip clamps that utilize one or more elastic members are also provided.

Surgical repositioning instrument

A surgical repositioning instrument for lowering and fixing a fixing rod in the tulip head of a bone screw has a coupling sleeve with two distal latching arms. A locking sleeve is longitudinally displaceable on the coupling sleeve between a release and locking position. A rod presser contacts and lowers the fixing rod, which is arranged displaceably within the coupling sleeve. Arranged in a through bore in the handle part is the locking sleeve, coupling sleeve and rod presser. On a grip part, an actuating lever is pivotally mounted to advance the rod presser relative to the coupling sleeve. The actuating lever has a laterally projecting force arm and a load arm which is coupled to the rod presser. The locking sleeve protrudes in its release position and is independently slid into its locking position by the rod presser acting on its proximal end with an axially directed force.

Reduction instrument, surgical assembly including a reduction instrument and related method

A surgical instrument for reducing a rod into a saddle of a fixation member includes a distal end for engaging the saddle and a proximal end. A reducing device is disposed between the distal end and the proximal end. The reducing device is operative to reduce the rod into the saddle. The reducing device defines a throughbore. The throughbore provides access there through by a first drive member to secure a plug to the saddle.
