Resorptive intramedullary implant between two bones or two bone fragments
The invention relates to a resorptive intramedullary implant between two bones or two bone fragments. The implant includes a single-piece body (1) having a generally elongate shape and having, at each end, areas for anchoring to the bone portions in question, characterized in that one of said areas (A1) has a cylindrical cross-section while the other area (A2) has a flat cross-section.
EXPANDABLE BONE NAIL
An intramedullary nail is suggested comprising a nail shaft with a lateral recess, with an expansion element being arranged in that recess, and an adjustment screw for adjusting the position and orientation of the expansion element relative to the nail shaft. A threaded bore may be formed in the nail shaft, wherein the threaded bore extends through the nail shaft and into the recess and is adapted to receive the adjustment screw.
STAPLES FOR GENERATING AND APPLYING COMPRESSION WITHIN A BODY
A staple comprising: a bridge configured to be elastically stretchable; a first leg connected to said bridge and configured to be elastically bendable; and a second leg connected to said bridge and configured to be elastically bendable; said first and second legs being connected to said bridge so that they are angled toward one another when they are in an unstrained state; such that when said bridge is elastically strained into an elongated condition, and said first and second legs are elastically strained so that they extend substantially parallel to one another, and said first and second legs are disposed in appropriate holes on opposing sides of a fracture line, and when the strain on said staple is thereafter released, compression will be provided across the fracture line by both said bridge and said first and second legs.
STENT
A stent is disclosed that has an elongated body composed of a bioabsorbable polymer having a proximal end, a distal end, two open spiral channels formed on the exterior surface of the body to provide fluid communication between the proximal end and the distal end. The stent also has a central lumen open at the proximal and distal ends of the stent for the passage of a guide wire. A method for using the stent and a kit containing the stent are also disclosed.
Distal locking intramedullary nail
A distal locking intramedullary nail is provided. The distal locking intramedullary nail includes a distal tip and a hollow inner portion. The distal tip includes two or more blades secured by, and rotatable about, a pin. The hollow inner portion has an internal threading for receiving an inner shaft having a threaded portion. Twisting of the inner shaft, with the threaded portion engaged with the internal threading of the hollow inner portion of the distal locking intramedullary nail, causes a distal end of the inner shaft to advance distally through the hollow inner portion of the distal locking intramedullary nail and to impact a proximal end of the two or more blades, thereby causing the two or more blades to rotate about the pin and to engage an inner wall of a patient's medullary canal.
Method and apparatus for treating a bone fracture
Apparatus for treating a bone fracture, the apparatus comprising: an anchoring tube comprising a hollow elongated shaft adapted for disposition in a hole formed in a bone and having a distal end, a proximal end and a lumen extending therebetween, and a substantially planar plate mounted to the proximal end of the hollow elongated shaft and adapted for disposition against the outer surface of the bone; wherein the plate comprises a top surface and a bottom surface, and further wherein the bottom surface of the plate is convex, such that when the anchoring tube is disposed in a hole formed in a bone and is rotated about the longitudinal axis of the hollow elongated shaft, the convex bottom surface of the plate maintains supporting contact with the outer surface of the bone.
Fixing means for fixation of bone fragments at bone fractures
A fixing means (1) for fixation of bone fragments at bone fractures comprises a sleeve (2) and at least one pin (9) which is provided in said sleeve and a front end portion (10) of which can be driven out and retracted through a side opening (8) in the sleeve such that said end portion can be brought to engage bone material in one of the bone fragments and retracted out of the bone material. For facilitating said driving and retraction, the pin (9) comprises a fixing member (9a) with said front end portion (10) and a driving and retraction member (9b) which is rotatably connected to the fixing member. The driving and retraction member (9b) is configured to, during rotation in a first direction relative to the fixing member (9a), displace the pin (9) in a forward direction relative to the sleeve (2) for driving the front end portion (10) of the pin out of the sleeve and into the bone material in said one bone fragment and, during rotation in a second, opposite direction relative to the fixing member, displace the pin in a backward direction relative to the sleeve for retracting the front end portion of the pin out of the bone material in said one bone fragment and into the sleeve.
Stent
A stent is disclosed that has an elongated body having a proximal end, a distal end, at least one open spiral channel formed on the exterior surface of the body to provide fluid communication between the proximal end and the distal end. The stent also has a central lumen open at the proximal and distal ends of the stent for the passage of a guide wire. A method for using the stent and a kit containing the stent are also disclosed.
Expandable intramedullary systems and methods of using the same
Intramedullary systems, expandable intramedullary nails, expandable anchors, and methods of using the same. The intramedullary system may include an expandable intramedullary nail configured to extend into an intramedullary canal of a long bone and/or one or more expandable anchors configured to extend at an angle transverse to the intramedullary nail. The intramedullary nails and/or anchors may include one or more integrated expansion mechanisms that allow for insertion in a contracted configuration and expansion into a deployed configuration to lock the relative position and prevent axial rotation and translation of the system.
