Method of osteosyntheses or arthrodesis of two-bone parts, in particular of the hand and / or foot
In one embodiment, the present invention is a fixation device including a median zone having a substantially triangular shape; a first fixation zone including first and second tabs that, in a separated configuration, extend away from each other from an end of the median zone, the first fixation zone having a first region adjacent the median zone and a second region adjacent the first region. Also, within the first region of the first fixation zone, an inner surface of each of the first and second tabs of the first fixation zone extends outwardly and proximally from the median zone to a first point to form an arch, and from the first point, the inner surface of each of the first and second tabs extends toward a second point. Further, within the second region of the first fixation zone, the inner surface of each of the first and second tabs of the first fixation zone extends outwardly from each second point to a respective third point so that the inner surface of each of the first and second tabs from the second point to the third point is arcuate and convex.
Expandable implant
An implant system includes a fixation device that, in turn can include an expandable implant alone or in combination with an auxiliary implant. The expandable implant includes an expandable implant body that is made from an expandable material. The expandable material includes a polymer matrix and an expandable gas source contained within at least a portion of the polymer matrix. The implant system can further include an energy source configured to heat the polymer matrix to a temperature above its glass transition temperature, thereby causing the gas source to expand inside the polymer matrix. The fixation device can further include an insertion instrument configured to implant the fixation device into an anatomical cavity.
DEVICE FOR FIXATION OF BONE FRAGMENTS
A device for fixation of bone fragments (4, 8) comprises a locking plate (1) for fixation on the outside of an outer bone fragment (4). The locking plate has a distal portion (1 a) with at least one first hole (6), extending through the locking plate, for a distal fixing means (2) and a proximal portion (1 b) with a second hole (7), extending through the locking plate, for a proximal fixing means (3). The locking plate (1) is configured also with a third hole (9) which is located between said at least one first hole (6) in the distal portion (1 a) of the locking plate and said second hole (7) in the proximal portion (1 b) of the locking plate and this third hole extends as the other holes through the locking plate. The device further comprises a rotary-preventing and load-carrying means (10) which is configured for insertion and fixation in said third hole (9) in the locking plate (1) and by cooperating with the proximal fixing means (3) prevent rotation of the proximal fixing means but permit displacement thereof in its longitudinal direction relative to the rotary-preventing and load-carrying means during compression after surgery of the outer and inner bone fragments (4, 8) and facilitate for the proximal fixing means to carry loading forces acting on the inner bone fragment (8).
Resorptive Intramedullary Implant Between Two Bones or Two Bone Fragments
The invention relates to a resorptive intramedullary implant between two bones or two bone fragments. The implant includes a single-piece body (1) having a generally elongate shape and having, at each end, areas for anchoring to the bone portions in question, characterized in that one of said areas (A1) has a cylindrical cross-section while the other area (A2) has a flat cross-section.
Expandable intramedullary systems and methods of using the same
Intramedullary systems, expandable intramedullary nails, expandable anchors, and methods of using the same. The intramedullary system may include an expandable intramedullary nail configured to extend into an intramedullary canal of a long bone and/or one or more expandable anchors configured to extend at an angle transverse to the intramedullary nail. The intramedullary nails and/or anchors may include one or more integrated expansion mechanisms that allow for insertion in a contracted configuration and expansion into a deployed configuration to lock the relative position and prevent axial rotation and translation of the system.
BONE ANCHORING ELEMENT
A bone anchoring element comprising a shaft (2) for anchoring in a bone, with a plurality of barb elements (7) arranged in at least one helical line around the shaft axis (M) is described, wherein said barb elements are elastically movable relative to the shaft. The bone anchoring element (1) is easy to press into a core hole bore in a bone. The barb elements (7) act in a similar manner as do the threads on a conventional bone screw and thus provide for depth positioning. Moreover, the barb elements at the same time secure the bone anchoring element and prevent it from sliding-out.
INTRAMEDULLARY FRACTURE FIXATION DEVICES AND METHODS
An intramedullary bone fixation device is provided with an elongate body having a longitudinal axis and an actuator to deploy at least one gripper to engage an inner surface of the intramedullary space to anchor the fixation device to the bone. Methods of repairing a fracture of a bone are also disclosed. One such method comprises inserting a fixation device into an intramedullary space of the bone to place at least a portion of the fixation device on one side of the fracture, providing rigidity across the fracture, and operating an actuator to deploy at least one gripper to engage an inner surface of the intramedullary space to anchor the fixation device to the bone. Various configurations allow a segmented device body to lock in the intramedullary space before and/or after fixation of the bone.
Joint arthrodesis and arthroplasty
An implantable fixation system for fusing a joint between a first bone and a second bone. The system may include an anchor, standoff, bolt, and cortical washer. The system may be implanted across the joint along a single trajectory, the length of the system adjustable to provide compressive force between the anchor and the cortical washer. The system may be implanted across a tibiotalar joint with the anchor positioned in the sinus tarsi. A spacing member may be inserted between the two bones and the fixation system implanted to extend through an opening in the spacing member. The spacing member may be anatomically shaped and/or provide deformity correction. An ankle arthroplasty system may include a tibial plate, a talar plate, and a bearing insert. The plates may be anchored to the tibia and talus along a single trajectory. The ankle arthroplasty system may be revisable to a fusion system.
Hammer toe implant with expansion portion for retrograde approach
A system includes and implant and an elongate device. The implant includes a first bone engaging portion and a flexible portion coupled to an end of the first bone engaging portion at an engagement portion. The flexible portion is configured to be compressed toward a longitudinal axis defined by the flexible portion. The elongate device includes an engagement end that is sized and configured to engage the engagement portion of the implant.
