A cylindrical shaft may be gripped with an apparatus including a housing having an axis and an inner surface with multiple asymmetric cam surfaces, a proximal end including a means to rotate the housing, and a distal end having an opening configured to receive the cylindrical shaft, at least two cylindrical gripping members configured to grip the cylindrical shaft, where each cylindrical gripping member contacts a corresponding asymmetric cam surface at a first rest position, and a rotatable frame which holds each pair of cylindrical gripping members at a fixed angular orientation relative to each other. The rotatable frame is configured to rotate upon insertion of the cylindrical shaft into a space defined by the gripping members so that each gripping member moves away from the axis of the housing along a first portion of the corresponding asymmetric cam surface. After insertion of the cylindrical shaft, the housing is configured to rotate so as to cause each gripping member to move toward the axis of the housing along the corresponding asymmetric cam surface.

Self-retaining fastener and driver

A provisional engagement feature for selectively connecting a fastener such as a screw to a driving tool, the fastener incorporating a head with a recess extending therein and a projection contained within the recess for engagement with a corresponding engagement feature of the driving tool.

An improved orthopedic kit

A kit for orthopedics, preferably for osteosynthesis, has a mechanical fixing system that includes a plate for straddling between two bone fragments and fixing screws for fixing the plate to the two bone fragments. The plate has a thickness of about 0.5-4 mm and conical through holes, the fixing screws each having a head, a self-tapping stem, and a conical collar interposed between the head and the self-tapping stem to define a conical coupling within a corresponding conical through hole of the plate. The heads of the fixing screws have a upper surfaces with a recessed and shaped mark for coupling with the tip of a screwing tool and external side walls with a thread for engaging a gripping tool. When the conical collar is inserted into a corresponding conical through hole of the plate, the head protrudes outwardly from the plate.

APPARATUS FOR DRIVER-SPECIFIC BACKOUT PREVENTION

A driver-specific back-out prevention mechanism is disclosed that includes a screw and a body. A first driver can be used for coupling and decoupling the screw with the body, and a second driver can only be used for adjusting the position of the screw in the receiving body. The body includes a cavity for receiving a head of the screw, with the cavity having an inward flange. The screw includes upper and lower sockets, with a channel extending though the head from the lower socket and a lock body disposed in the channel. Engagement with the first driver allows the locking body to move such that the fastener can be inserted and removed from the body. Engagement with the second driver displaces the locking body such that the locking body interferes with the flange such that screw fastener cannot be removed from the body by the second driver.

COMPRESSION NUT, A SYSTEM AND A METHOD FOR TREATING A BONE

A compression nut for treating a bone includes a head and a body extending longitudinally from the head to a free end. The body includes an exterior threading along an exterior surface of a threaded portion of the body separated from the head via an unthreaded portion. The nut also includes a channel extending longitudinally through the body. The channel includes an interior threaded extending along an interior surface of the channel configured to threadedly engage an end of a locking screw received therein.

Anatomy buttressing adaptor

A screw and an anatomy buttressing adaptor are provided. The screw includes a head portion, a shaft portion, and a central axis. The anatomy buttressing adaptor includes a body portion including a first end, an opposite second end, a lower surface, and an internal cavity extending through the body portion. The lower surface of the body portion being formed at least adjacent the second end thereof, and including spikes formed thereon and spaced therearound.

SPINAL STABILIZATION SYSTEMS WITH QUICK-CONNECT SLEEVE ASSEMBLIES FOR USE IN SURGICAL PROCEDURES

In some embodiments, a spinal stabilization system may be formed in a patient using quick-connect sleeve assemblies. Each quick-connect sleeve assembly can be coupled to a bone fastener assembly in a fast and intuitive way. In one embodiment, a quick-connect sleeve assembly has a detachable member and a movable member. Both members engage a collar of the bone fastener assembly. In one embodiment, the engagement can be locked via one or more locking features to facilitate screwing a bone fastener of the bone fastener assembly onto a vertebral body in a minimally invasive surgical procedure. Each quick-connect sleeve assembly has a low profile and is particularly shaped for minimally invasive entry.

Screw for joint fusion

Techniques for joint fusion are described, including a screw comprising a head having a partially flat surface and an opening for receiving a screwdriver tip, the head able to fit within a drill guide, a tip having another opening, a shaft extending from the head to the tip, the shaft having a plurality of holes and a thread on an external surface of the shaft, and a cannula within the shaft extending from the opening to the another opening.

Instrument for inserting a spinal device

In one aspect, a bone anchor assembly is provided having a bone anchor with a head, a resilient locking cap extending about a portion of the bone anchor head, and a cap drive member having a depending annular wall. In another form, a bone plate system is provided including a bone plate having an elongated throughbore and a resilient support member received therein. In another aspect, an insertion device is provided for manipulating and inserting a spinal device at or within a spinal joint. The insertion device is configured to actively pivot the implant about the implant gripping end of the device and to allow manipulation and release of the implant in any pivoted orientation from approximately 0 to 90 degrees.
