The universal shank having an integral upper capture structure with opposed spaced apart flat side surfaces. The receiver subassembly including a receiver including a distal opening for bottom loading of the capture structure of the universal shank there-through. The receiver supporting a retainer and a positioner within the receiver. The positioner supporting a position of the retainer within the receiver. The retainer configured to couple with the capture structure when the capture structure extends at least partially through the distal opening.

Apparatus and methods for fracture repair

Apparatus and methods for bone fracture repair. The apparatus may include a structural support for positioning a first bone segment relative to a second bone segment. The apparatus may include an anchoring substrate. The anchoring substrate may be configured to compress the first bone segment to the second bone segment. The anchoring substrate may transmit tension from a distal bone segment anchor in the first bone segment to a proximal bone segment anchor in the second bone segment. The apparatus may be configured to be deployed percutaneously in an inner cavity of a bone. The apparatus may be installed in an open fracture. The apparatus may be expanded, self-expanding or configured for mechanically actuation. Some embodiments of the apparatus may include a central axis member that may be used in conjunction with expansion of one or both of the structural support and the anchoring substrate to configure the apparatus.

Flexible plate fixation of bone fractures

Embodiments provide methods, apparatuses, and systems for fixation of a fractured bone with a bone plate. In various embodiments, the systems and plates provide elastic suspension of the receiving holes relative to an osteosynthesis plate. This elastic suspension can promote load distribution between the screws that connect a bone segment to the plate, thereby reducing stress risers and load shielding effect. In addition, stress at the screw holes, and within the construct as a whole, is reduced by incorporation of these elastic elements in the plate. Additionally, in some embodiments where fracture healing by callus formation is desired, elastic suspension of the receiving holes relative to the osteosynthesis plate can enable small, controlled amounts of relative motion between bone fragments connected by the plate. This relative motion can promote fracture healing by callus formation.

Suture anchors and assemblies for attaching soft tissue to bone
09820732 · 2017-11-21 · ·

Improved bone anchors are disclosed for anchoring one or more sutures attached to soft tissue to a bone. The bone anchor has an anchor body that extends between a distal end and a proximal end. A bore is formed axially in the anchor body and opens at the proximal end. One or more pins are fixed within the bore of the anchor body. One or more sutures can be looped on the pins for anchoring soft tissue to bone. The anchor body has a socket within the bore for receiving a driver tool. The distal end of the anchor body forms a non-threaded extension, which stabilizes the bone anchor, and helps prevent lateral movement during use. In one embodiment, the anchor body has coarse threads for engaging soft bone tissue and fine threads for engaging hard bone tissue.

Hybrid cannulated orthopedic screws

The disclosure relates to medical devices and methods of manufacturing medical devices. An orthopedic screw includes an inner core member having a head having a first outer diameter, a tip having a second outer diameter, and a body extending between the head and the tip and having a third outer diameter that is less than the first outer diameter and the second outer diameter. An outer body member is disposed circumferentially around the body of the inner core member and defines an outer body member external thread. The tip of the inner core member can define an inner core member external thread that forms an interrupted thread with the outer body member external thread.

Tool for the manipulation of fastening devices
11253306 · 2022-02-22 ·

A tool for manipulating flexible and non-flexible fastening devices. The tool assembly has a flexible rod for insertion into the distal end of the fastening device. A handle assembly interacts with proximal end of the flexible rod and the proximal end of the fastening device to control of the fastening device by initiating rotation at the distal end of the fastening device.

Assembly comprising an implantable part designed to be fastened to one or more bones or bone portions to be joined, and at least one screw for fastening the implantable part to said bone(s)

An assembly including an implantable part designed to be fastened to at least one bone or bone portions to be joined and at least one screw for fastening the implantable part to the at least one bone or bone portions. The implantable part includes at least one tapped hole and the screw includes a head designed to be engaged in the tapped hole. The tapped hole is cylindrical and includes at least one radial notch emerging in a surface of the implantable part through which the screw is designed to be engaged in the tapped hole. The radial notch produces an interruption in the tapping included by the tapped hole. The head of the screw is conical, with an apical angle of between 15 and 25°.

A dual-start fastener is disclosed having two threads helically wound about its shaft. The thread tooth profile (in section) constitutes substantially parallel upper and lower facets on each thread flank. A first thread has a crest diameter greater than a second thread. A distal end of the fastener includes self-tapping cutters formed on the threads which force shards of bone to advance into shallow troughs adjacent the cutters for subsequent resorption by adjacent osseous tissue.

Knotless suture anchor with unthreaded nose

A suture anchor has a tubular body having an axial bore therethrough with one or more purchase enhancements on an exterior surface of the body adapted to enhance purchase of the body within a bone hole. These are preferably screw threads. A distal nose of the suture body has a smooth exterior surface. A length of suture passes down along the exterior surface over the purchase enhancements, over the distal nose, and up into the bore. The smooth exterior surface of the distal nose allows tension of the suture to be held by the engagement of the nose within the bone hole thus making it easier to obtain proper tension as the remaining portion is engaged into the bone hole to provide final fixation.
