Ceramic Acetabular Cup

A ceramic acetabular cup (10) devoid of a separate liner comprises a part-spherical inner articulating surface (12) for non-captively receiving a femoral head, and an outer surface (14) for enabling direct to bone fixation. An inner radius at or adjacent to a rim (22) of the cup (10) extends to or adjacent to a surface edge of the inner articulating surface (12) to prevent or reduce undesirable effects of impingement of an associated femoral head and/or neck. An inner radius of the inner articulating surface (12) defines an active arc (A) over which an in use femoral head can articulate, and an uppermost portion of the rim (22) defines an offset datum plane (D). An offset (O) between an equatorial centre (E) of the inner articulating surface (12) and the offset datum plane (D) is in a range of around 1 mm towards a pole (24) of the inner articulating surface (12) and around 3.5 mm away from the said pole (24). The active arc (A) extends in a range from around (150) degrees to less than 180 degrees, and a distance between the inner articulating surface, (12) and outer surface (14) on a straight line from the said equatorial centre (E) and passing through the surface edge is equal to or less than 4 mm.

LATERAL AND MEDIAL PIVOTING KNEE PROSTHESIS

The present invention comprises an implantable knee prosthesis for the arthritic, aging, ligament-deficient knee having a femoral component, a tibial component and patella component forming three interactive knee compartments mainly the lateral, medial, and femoral patellar compartments articulating together with a variable axial pivot type of knee motion. This novel design accomplishes this motion pattern with four femoral component radii coacting with four reciprocal proximal tibial surface recesses. This occurs in a laterally congruent axial pivot fashion during the first half of knee flexion creating efficient external femoral rotation to align the femoral-patellar groove with the patella/quadriceps muscle complex.

System and method for implanting an acetabular prosthetic component

A surgical instrument for implanting an acetabular prosthetic component is disclosed, wherein the surgical instrument includes a modular head. A plurality of locking pins extends from the modular head. A locking arm extends from the modular head and is movable between an open position and a closed position. A surgical handle extends from the modular head. The modular head is removably coupled to the surgical handle. The surgical handle engages a first locking pin to lock the modular head to the surgical handle. A linkage assembly engages a second locking pin to actuate the locking arm.

Glenoid Fossa Prosthesis

The improved glenoid fossa prosthesis for repair of a scapular deficient patient includes a base with a fixed flange, and a separable flange. A conical taper on the base and a complimentary locator edge positively orient the separable flange when joined with the base for affixation by screw. A plurality of flange fixation screws penetrates the scapular tissue between the flanges for affixation of the flanges thereto. The flange thickness is variable to approximate the topography of the scapular tissue in the affixation area to minimize tissue trimming during fitment. A cutting mask attaches to the deficient scapula in the glenoid fossa area to guide the physician in trimming scapular tissue for fitment. A cortical screw further fixates the base to the scapular tissue. A second conical taper on the base serves as a mount for a glenoid sphere (reverse shoulder) or socket (standard shoulder) repair configuration.

Punch, implant and associated method

A method of performing joint arthroplasty includes preparing a flat surface on a long bone, providing an instrument having a body and a punch extending from the body, the punch including a portion thereof having a shape similar to a stem of an implant, positioning a stop on the flat surface, rotating the stop with respect to the surface of the long bone based upon an indicia on one of the body and the stop so as to position the punch rotationally with respect to the surface to a desired orientation when the instrument is at least partially inserted into the stop, using the instrument to form a cavity in the long bone with the punch at the desired rotational orientation with the instrument inserted at least partially within the stop, the cavity having a shape similar to the stem of the implant, and implanting the stem into the cavity.

Artificial disc replacement device

An artificial disc replacement device is disclosed. The device includes an upper endplate and a lower endplate, as well as a core assembly disposed between the endplates. The core assembly includes a core member with a curved engaging surface and a matrix member. The matrix member is more compressible than the core member. The curved engaging surface of the core member engages a recess in the upper endplate so that the upper endplate can translate along the curved engaging surface. The curved engaging surface has a greater curvature at its posterior end than at its anterior end to facilitate different ranges of motion during extension and flexion.

Injection molded prosthetic component with planarized bone-contacting surfaces

A method for manufacturing a prosthetic component include injection molding a prosthetic component with a polymeric material. The prosthetic component includes a final surface positioned on one side and multiple coring features positioned on an opposite side. The coring features may include multiple ribs and slots. The method further includes machining the prosthetic component to remove the coring features and form a final surface on the opposite side. The prosthetic component may be a femoral component for a prosthetic knee joint.

Advanced Rotation Restrictor

A prosthetic trial base includes a hinge and two levers connected to one another by the hinge. Each lever includes a tab extending proximally of the hinge and a fin extending distally of the hinge. The prosthetic trial base also includes a head movable between the tabs to force the tabs apart from one another. The trial base also includes a collar defining a bore in which the tabs are received and a lid that is connected to the levers. The head and is connected to the lid in a manner that enables the head to be driven relative to the lid.

System, including apparatus and methods, for ankle fusion using a device for separating a first bone and a second bone of an ankle region. In some embodiments, the device may comprise an expandable spacer including first and second bone-contacting surface regions facing away from one another and configured to be abutted with the first and second bones, respectively. A distance between the first and second bone-contacting surface regions may be adjustable to change the separation of the first and second bones. The first bone-contacting surface region may correspond to a portion of a sphere and may be configured to be disposed at least partially in a concavity formed surgically in the first bone. The expandable spacer offers improved control over the length of the lower limb and the orientation of the foot during ankle fusion surgery.
