Stabilization Members For Expandable Intervertebral Implants, And Related Systems And Methods

An expandable intervertebral cage includes vertically opposed superior and inferior plates and longitudinally opposed distal and proximal wedges disposed between the plates. The wedges define ramps that engage complimentary ramps of the superior and inferior plates to increase a vertical distance between the plates. An actuator is located between the plates, defines a central, longitudinal axis, and is coupled to the wedges such that, as the actuator rotates about the axis, at least one of the wedges moves longitudinally relative to the other, thereby increasing the vertical separation distance. At least one locking component is insertable within a receptacle at least partially defined by the proximal wedge and is configured to transition from an unlocked configuration, where the actuator is rotatable relative to the proximal wedge, to a locked configuration, where the actuator is rotationally affixed relative to the proximal wedge.

BONE FUSION DEVICE, SYSTEM AND METHOD

A bone fusion method, system and device for insertion between bones that are to be fused together in order to replace degenerated discs and/or bones, for example, the vertebrae of a spinal column. The bone fusion device comprises a frame and one or more extendable plates that are able to be angled, rotatable, adjustable, and have top profiles designed to correct and/or match the replaced discs/bones. The bone fusion device is able to be inserted between or replace the vertebrae by using a minimally invasive procedure wherein the dimensions and/or other characteristics of the bone fusion device are selectable based on the type of minimally invasive procedure.

An implant includes a first plate and a second plate, a first wedge member and a second wedge member spaced from the first wedge member that couple the first and second plates together. The first and second wedge members configured to translate along the first and second plates from a first contracted configuration into a second expanded configuration. The implant includes an actuation member coupled to the first wedge member and the second wedge member. The actuating member defines a flange extending toward the first and second plates. The actuation member configured to move the first and second wedge members from the first contracted configuration into the second expanded configuration so that the first and second plates separate from each other.

An expandable intervertebral implant includes a first endplate and a endplate, a first wedge member and a second wedge member spaced from the first wedge member that couple the first and second plates together. The first and second wedge members configured to move between a first collapsed position and a second expansion position. The implant includes an actuation member coupled to the first wedge member and the second wedge member. The first and second wedge members can be coupled to the upper and lower endplates at guide members that are asymmetric. An instrument can be coupled to the implant so as to provide a force to the actuation member that causes the wedge members to move between the collapsed position and the expansion position. The instrument can include a drive shaft and a toggle member that is configured to move the drive shaft between a first position whereby the drive shaft is configured to drive an attachment pin into the implant, and a second position whereby the drive shaft is aligned to drive the actuation member to rotate.

A geared cam expandable spinal implant. Rotational motion of a rotating portion is translated into linear motion of a yoke, which moves geared cams at the distal end of the implant to mate with, and walk along, teeth of corresponding racks. The walking of the gear cam teeth along the rack teeth creates a regular rate of implant expansion, reduces initial excessive expansion force applied to the implant, and provides fine adjustment of the expansion rate and force.
