Expanding orthopedic implant
An expandable intervertebral implant having an upper body portion, a lower body portion opposite the upper body portion, a wedge member connecting the upper body portion to the lower body portion, a nose member having a tapered distal end and a proximal end opposite the distal end, and an actuator disposed between the nose member and the wedge member, for translation of the wedge member along a longitudinal axis of the implant. A pin connects to the actuator for positioning the nose member relative to the actuator. Translation of the wedge member along the longitudinal axis of the implant displaces the upper body portion and the lower body portion away from each other, thereby expanding the intervertebral implant.
Expandable Intervertebral Spacers
The description relates to an expandable intervertebral spacer configured to engage an intervertebral disk. An example expandable spacer includes a main body, a first endplate, a second endplate, a driving member, a plurality of pins, and an actuation member. The expandable spacer is configured to transition from a first configuration to a second configuration by various structures (e.g., steps, faceted surfaces, curved surfaces, multi-faceted portions) defined on the first endplate, the second endplate, and the driving member.
Intervertebral spacer with ramped integral expansion mechanism and stepped locking mechanism
An expandable intervertebral spacer system having a top plate and a bottom plate forming a cage. The top, bottom, and sides of the cage have openings to receive bone graft material. At least one ramp extends into the cage from the top plate or bottom plate. The top plate and bottom plate are connected together at the proximal end of the cage at a hinge. The cage is expanded by inserting a pushrod into the proximal end of the cage against the ramp and forcing the top and bottom plates apart at a desired angle. A locking mechanism at the distal end of the cage locks the plates apart using a ratchet-like mechanism in which a torsion spring biases a movable post against a stationary post, such that the saw teeth of the movable post and stationary post cooperate to lock the top and bottom plates apart.
Spinal fusion device with staged expansion
The present invention provides an expandable fusion device capable of being installed inside an intervertebral disc space to maintain normal disc spacing and restore spinal stability, thereby facilitating an intervertebral fusion. The fusion device described herein is capable of being installed inside an intervertebral disc space at a minimum to no distraction height and for a fusion device capable of maintaining a normal distance between adjacent vertebral bodies when implanted.
Expandable intervertebral implant for treatment of scoliosis
An expandable intervertebral implant, including a support component, an inferior component, including a first proximate end connected to the support component, a first distal end, a first top surface, and a first bottom surface, a superior component, including a second proximate end connected to the support component, a second distal end, a second top surface, and a second bottom surface, and a balloon connected to the first top surface and the second bottom surface and operatively arranged to expand the expandable intervertebral implant.
Spinal implant for motion preservation or fusion
An interspinous posterior device (IPD) is described. The IPD has a body and bone fixation elements on either side of the body, each of said bone fixation elements having a ratchet locking mechanism for fixing the body to successive spinous processes of a mammalian vertebra. Each of the bone fixation elements is independently adjustable by ratcheting it separately and independently of the other bone fixation elements. The body of the IPD has a dynamic configuration and a non-dynamic configuration, wherein the dynamic configuration allows for both extension and flexion of the successive spinous processes and the non-dynamic configuration prohibits extension of the successive spinous processes. The IPD also includes a removable extension restriction block, wherein the extension restriction block can optionally be inserted in the body to prohibit extension or can be removed from the body to allow extension.
INTERVERTEBRAL DEVICES
The intervertebral fusion device (200) comprises a superior component (220), an inferior component (240) and a core component (260). The superior and inferior components (220, 240) are received in an intervertebral space between first and second vertebrae whereby the superior component top side abuts against the first vertebra, the inferior component bottom side abuts against the second vertebra, and the superior component bottom side and the inferior component top side oppose each other. A height of the intervertebral fusion device is determined upon insertion of the core component (260) between the superior and inferior components (220, 240). Each of the superior component top side and the inferior component bottom side is one of: oblong having a major axis; and square, being bounded by four edges. During insertion of the core component (260) a first core profile of the core component cooperates with a superior component profile at the superior component bottom side and a second core profile of the core component cooperates with an inferior component profile at the inferior component top side whereby the core component moves in a direction oblique to the major axis where the superior component top side or the inferior component bottom side is oblong or to an edge of the superior component top side or the inferior component bottom side where the superior component top side or the inferior component bottom side is square.
Expandable interbody spacer
An expandable interbody spacer for placement between adjacent vertebrae having two or more upper and lower endplates and lateral expansion wedges configured to couple a drive means to expand both a height and a width of the expandable interbody spacer from a collapsed state to an expanded state.
Monoblock expandable interbody implant
A unibody implant movable between an expanded position and a contracted position is disclosed. The unibody implant may include a unitary expandable body defined by an inferior portion and a superior portion that are connected together. In various embodiments, a set screw may be rotatably supported by the body and configured to move a plug having a first inclined surface facing the distal side. In various embodiments, the set screw may be movable in the longitudinal direction towards the distal side upon rotation of the set screw along the rotation axis, for example. In various embodiments, movement of the set screw urges the plug against the superior portion thereby expanding a vertical distance between the superior and inferior sides of the body. In some embodiments, the plug may include a stabilizing element configured to transfer compressive forces between the superior portion and inferior portion.
Expandable bi-dimensional interbody and method of manufacturing the same
An expandable bi-dimensional intervertebral implant for an intervertebral fusion is provided. The implant includes a first hinge arm, a second hinge arm connected to the first hinge arm, and a translation member movable relative to the first hinge arm and the second hinge arm between an initial position and an engaged position. The second hinge arm is movable between a primary position and a secondary position relative to the first hinge arm. In the engaged position, the translation member biases the first hinge arm to move from a first position to a second position and biases the second hinge arm to move between a first position and a second position.
