A pedicle insulator implant is designed to protect the nerves and surrounding tissue from injury by pedicle screws or other surgical devices and instruments. The implant is configured to shield a fixture, reduce nerve root irritation, and diminish loosening of the fixture, when the fixture is implanted into the void of a target site. The implant includes features for stabilizing and securing the implant within the void at the target site. For example, in one embodiment, the implant includes one or more ridges and one or more teeth sections that stabilize the implant against rotational and extractive forces that could disturb the implant.

METHOD AND DEVICES FOR INTRACORPOREAL BONDING OF IMPLANTS WITH THERMAL ENERGY

The present invention provides a method for stabilizing a fractured bone. The method includes positioning an elongate rod in the medullary canal of the fractured bone and forming a passageway through the cortex of the bone. The passageway extends from the exterior surface of the bone to the medullary canal of the bone. The method also includes creating a bonding region on the elongate rod. The bonding region is generally aligned with the passageway of the cortex. Furthermore, the method includes positioning a fastener in the passageway of the cortex and on the bonding region of the elongate rod and thermally bonding the fastener to the bonding region of the elongate rod while the fastener is positioned in the passageway of the cortex.

Joint Arthroplasty Devices and Surgical Tools

Disclosed herein are methods, compositions and tools for repairing articular surfaces repair materials and for repairing an articular surface. The articular surface repairs are customizable or highly selectable by patient and geared toward providing optimal fit and function. The surgical tools are designed to be customizable or highly selectable by patient to increase the speed, accuracy and simplicity of performing total or partial arthroplasty.

ARTIFICIAL KNEE SYSTEM HAVING A GEAR ARRANGEMENT

A knee joint prosthesis moves between an extended and flexion positions. The prosthesis includes a femoral component configured to be mounted to a femur, the femoral component having a femoral gear including a plurality of posts arranged along a helical trajectory. The prosthesis also includes a tibial component configured to (i) be mounted either directly or indirectly to a tibia, and (ii) engage the femoral component. The tibial component has a tibial gear including a plurality of recesses that are configured to mesh with the posts of the femoral gear. The tibial gear has two intersecting portions including a horizontally-oriented curved portion and a vertical portion, wherein each portion includes at least one of the recesses. The plurality of posts follow a helical trajectory to cause movement of the tibial component in either a medial or lateral direction as the knee joint prosthesis is moved to the extended position.

Methods and devices for utilizing bondable materials

The invention primarily relates to fastening and stabilizing tissues, implants, and/or bondable materials, such as the fastening of a tissue and/or implant to a bondable material, the fastening of an implant to tissue, and/or the fastening of an implant to another implant. This may involve using an energy source to bond and/or mechanically to stabilize a tissue, an implant, a bondable material, and/or other biocompatible material. The invention may also relate to the use of an energy source to remove and/or install an implant and/or bondable material or to facilitate solidification and/or polymerization of bondable material.

Methods and apparatus for joint repair

The disclosed subject matter relates to a system and method for preparing a surface of a bone proximate a joint, in which the preparation includes boring a plurality of arced channels/troughs in the bone surface using an arch drill assembly guided by plural guide bores along a predetermined longitudinal arc. The bored troughs create a scalloped surface on the bone to which an inverse contoured joint insert/implant having cooperating convex ridges engages. The plural guide bores are also defined by the predetermined longitudinal arc which may be circular or helical. The disclosed subject matter minimizes bone removal and allows greater access options for preparing the bone surface.

Interbody spacer and bone plate assembly

Implant assemblies, systems, and methods for stabilizing a joint between a superior vertebra and an inferior vertebra may include a plate member coupled to an interbody spacer with at least one fastener that extends superiorly or inferiorly from the implant assembly to anchor within a vertebral body and stabilize the joint. Inserters and methods of insertion may also be included to facilitate fixation of various implant assemblies within the intervertebral space of the joint between the superior vertebra and the inferior vertebra.

PEDICLE REPLACEMENT DEVICE

A pedicle replacement device is designed to both replace the pedicle through osseointegration and protect the nerves and surrounding tissue from injury by pedicle screws or other surgical devices and instruments. The implant is configured to shield a fixture, reduce nerve root irritation, and diminish loosening of the fixture, when the fixture is implanted into the void of a target site. The implant includes features for stabilizing and securing the implant within the void at the target site. For example, in one embodiment, the implant includes counterclockwise threads that stabilize the implant against rotational and extractive forces that could disturb the implant.

Stemmed modular implant system

A stemmed implant system can include a stem component and an accessory component. The stemmed component can include a first portion adapted to be anchored within a medullary canal of a bone and a second portion including a mounting boss defining an inner coupling surface. The accessory component can define an outer coupling surface adapted to engage the inner coupling surface of the mounting boss of the stem component to secure the accessory component to the stem component.
