A four-component artificial intervertebral disc may provide six degrees of movement: flexion, extension, lateral bending, axial rotation, axial deflection, and anterior/posterior translation. The disc may include a superior endplate, a superior core, an inferior core, and an inferior endplate. The superior endplate may include a concave mating surface, and the inferior endplate may include a spherical mating surface. The superior endplate may roll across the superior core to provide flexion, extension, and lateral bending. The superior endplate may twist or rotate atop the superior core to provide axial rotation, and the superior endplate may slide over the superior core to provide anterior/posterior translation. The superior core may be connected to the inferior core, and the inferior core may be connected to the inferior endplate. The inferior core may be made from a flexible material that may enable the artificial disc to expand or compress vertically.

ARTIFICIAL INTERVERTEBRAL DISC WITH LOWER HEIGHT

An intervertebral disc is provided having an upper plate, a lower plate, and a core. The upper and lower plates include outer vertebral body contacting surfaces which are provided with attachment enhancing features to ensure bone integration. The attachment enhancing features shown include one or more fins, serrations and teeth. An opposite surface of the plates from the vertebral body contacting surfaces is formed with a recess which serves as a bearing surface for the core. In order to form an intervertebral disc with a lower disc height, at least one of the recesses is provided opposite a corresponding dome shaped portion on the vertebral body contacting surfaces. This allows the plates to be formed with a thinner profile for a smaller overall disc height. In addition to providing a lower overall height to the artificial disc, the dome shaped portion of the plates also provides a more anatomically shaped outer vertebral body contacting surface.

Set of glenoid components for a shoulder prosthesis

This set comprises glenoid components that each include a body defining, on two of its opposite faces, respectively, a joint surface, intended to cooperate with a humeral head, and a bearing surface bearing against the socket of a shoulder blade. In this set, the glenoid components are provided in several different sizes, respectively defined by the dimensions of the joint surface of their body. At least two glenoid components of which the bearing surfaces respectively have different dimensional geometries are provided so as to allow the surgeon to improve the durability of the mechanical cooperation between the implanted component and the operated socket.

Shoulder prosthesis

A prosthesis may include a stem, a ball stud, an adaptor, and a head. The stem may include a longitudinal axis and a bore having a central axis that is angled relative to the longitudinal axis. The ball stud may include a cylindrical shaft and a ball end. The cylindrical shaft may be received in the bore of the stem. The adaptor may include a tapered outer surface and a ball socket rotatably receiving the ball end of the stud. The head may be rotatably supported by the adaptor and may include a semispherical articulating surface and a female taper rotatably receiving the tapered outer surface of the adaptor.

Intervertebral implant with keel

An intervertebral implant component of an intervertebral implant includes an outer surface for engaging an adjacent vertebra and an inner surface. A keel extends from the outer surface and is designed to be disposed in a slot provided in the adjacent vertebra. This keel extends in a plane which is non-perpendicular to the outer surface; and preferably there are two of the keels extending from the outer surface which are preferably offset laterally from one another. In another embodiment, an anterior shelf is provided at an anterior end of the outer surface, and this anterior shelf extends vertically away from the inner surface in order to help prevent bone growth from the adjacent vertebra towards the inner surface. Further in accordance with disclosed embodiments, various materials, shapes and forms of construction of the component and/or keel provide various benefits.

OSSEOINTEGRATED IMPLANT ASSEMBLY HAVING TRANSVERSE THROUGH-OPENINGS, AND SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF USING SAME

An implant assembly for a long bone having a longitudinal axis. The implant assembly has a stem that is received in a surgically prepared medullary canal of the long bone. The stem defines at least one transverse through-opening that extends through the stem from a first portion of the outer surface of the stem to an opposed second portion of the outer surface of the stem. Each transverse through-opening has a central axis that is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the stem. Each transverse through-opening receives a fastener and has a longitudinal dimension, measured relative to the longitudinal axis of the stem, that is sufficient to permit axial movement, relative to the longitudinal axis of the stem, of the stem relative to each fastener.

Ankle replacement apparatus and method

In some exemplary embodiments, an ankle replacement prosthesis includes a tibial component which provides a convex bearing surface, and a talar component which provides a concave bearing surface configured to interface with the convex bearing surface of the tibial component to provide a joint of the ankle replacement prosthesis. The tibial component is configured to be attached to a patient's tibia and the talar component is configured to be attached to the patient's talus.
