The medical device comprises; an artificial contacting surface adapted to replace at least the surface of at least one of the mammal's joint contacting surfaces, wherein the artificial contacting surface is adapted to be lubricated, when implanted in said joint. Furthermore the medical device comprises at least one inlet adapted to receive a lubricating fluid from a reservoir, at least one channel at least partly integrated in the artificial contacting surface in connection with the at least one inlet for distributing the lubricating fluid to the surface of the artificial contacting surface. The medical device could be adapted to be operable by an operation device to receive the distributed lubricated fluid from a reservoir.
IMPLANTABLE LUBRICATION DEVICE AND METHOD OF TREATING A HUMAN OR MAMMAL PATIENT BY MEANS OF THE DEVICE
A lubrication device for lubricating a joint of a human or mammal patient, which is entirely implantable in a patient's body, comprises a reservoir for storing a lubricating fluid and a fluid connection for introducing the lubricating fluid into the joint when the device is implanted in the patient's body. Further, the fluid connection comprises a fluid connection device connecting the reservoir with the joint such that a lubricating fluid flow is established from the reservoir into the joint. The fluid connection comprises either an infusion needle adapted to be intermittently placed into the joint for injecting the lubricating fluid, or a tube adapted to be permanently placed into the joint for continuously injecting the lubricating fluid.
Hip joint device
A locking member for implantation in a hip joint of a patient is disclosed. The locking member is adapted to assist in the fixation of a medical device, having an artificial hollow caput femur surface, to the collum and/or caput femur, wherein the artificial caput femur surface comprises at least one extending portion adapted to clasp a portion of the caput and/or collum femur. The locking member comprises an element adapted to lock the artificial caput femur surface such that the caput femur remains clasped and restrained in the artificial caput femur surface.
HIP JOINT METHOD
A method of absorbing a force in the hip joint of a human patient using a hip joint prosthesis, wherein the hip joint prosthesis comprises a first proximal area having a first material or part of material adapted to have a first elasticity and a second distal area comprising a second material or part of material, adapted to have a second different predetermined elasticity, such that the difference in elasticity affects the elasticity of the hip joint prosthesis along the length axis, the method comprising the step of the material of the first area of the hip joint prosthesis deforming elastically, when exposed to a force, and the material of the second area of the hip joint prosthesis deforming less elastically than the material of the first area of the hip joint prosthesis, when exposed to the force.
HIP IMPLANT WITH ELASTIC RETENTION DEVICE
Implant devices, systems, and methods are used to prevent post-surgical dislocation of a surgically reconstructed ball-and-socket joint, while retaining the patient's range of motion. The implant device can have a cup having a substantially hemispherical inner contour; a head at least partially inserted within the cup, the head having an outer contour that is generally spherically-shaped, and an elastic retainer with an inner contour that is at least a cross-sectional segment of a spherical shape having substantially a same radius as the inner contour of the cup, the elastic retainer being attachable over an open end of the cup to retain the head within the cup and allowing the outer contour of the head to freely rotate and/or pivot against the inner contour of the cup over the predetermined range of motion of the ball-and-socket joint.
SURGICAL TRAYS, INSTRUMENTS AND METHODS FOR REMOVING COMPONENTS OF A HIP REPLACEMENT PROSTHESIS
Surgical trays and tools for use in hip revision surgery wherein the implanted prosthesis is a reverse prosthesis comprising an acetabular ball and a femoral cup. A set of trays is provided having tools for i) separating a femoral cup from an acetabular ball, ii) separating a femoral cup from a femoral implant and iii) separating an acetabular ball from an acetabular cup. A tool for removing an acetabular cup from an acetabulum is also described. A surgical method is also provided wherein the acetabular ball and femoral cup are separated first followed by, in any order, separating the femoral cup from the femoral implant and separating the acetabular ball from the acetabular cup.
IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO CERAMIC FEMORAL RESURFACING HEAD PROSTHESIS
A ceramic femoral resurfacing head prosthesis (110) comprises a ceramic convex outer contact surface (112) engagable with an acetabulum of a patient or an acetabular cup prosthesis and a concave inner fixation surface (114) having an inner-land portion (128), the ceramic convex outer contact surface (112) and the concave inner fixation surface (114) extending to intersect each other at a rim (116). A ceramic stem (120) projects from the concave inner fixation surface (114), and is adapted to be received by a stem bore. The concave inner fixation surface (114) includes a skirt (134) which is cylindrical or substantially cylindrical, or frusto-conical or substantially frusto-conical, and at least one circumferentially elongate recess (136) at the skirt (134).
