Splint for Supporting an Injured Limb and/or Appendage
A splint includes a band having a first end portion, a second end portion, and a middle portion extending between the end portions. The splint also includes at least one elongated member formed from a bendable material having at least a middle portion extending axially along the middle portion of the band, a first hook portion bent relative to a longitudinal axis of the band, and a second hook portion bent relative to the longitudinal axis of the band. The splint also includes at least one first perforation positioned in the band to receive the first hook portion and a second perforation in the band positioned to receive the second hook portion for securing the end portions of the band together forming at least one loop sized to support an injured limb and/or appendage of a patient.
FINGER ORTHOSIS AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION THEREOF
A finger orthosis for applying a force to a structural part using a finger. Finger orthoses of this kind can be used as work aids or assembly aids. A method for producing such finger orthoses is also disclosed. The finger orthosis has a support element for supporting the finger orthosis on at least one further finger. In a further variant, the finger orthosis has a tool, connected to the frame, for transmitting the force to a structural part.
THUMB BRACE
A thumb brace for at least partially immobilizing a thumb of a user is provided. The thumb brace includes a first curved support element configured to be disposed on a heel of a hand along an intercarpal articulation of the thumb and in a palmar gutter of the hand. The thumb brace includes a second curved support element coupled to the first curved support element and configured to be disposed on a palm of the hand along a metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb. The thumb brace includes a third curved support element configured to be disposed on a backside of the hand along the intercarpal articulation of the thumb. The thumb brace includes a fourth curved support element coupled to the third curved support element and configured to be disposed on the backside of the hand along the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb. Related methods are also provided.
FINGER SPLINT FOR PIP IMMOBILIZATION
A splint immobilizes a proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint of a finger while allowing a distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint to be flexed. The splint may include a splint body and straps configured to secure the splint body to the finger. The splint body may have a size to fit the finger, a shape to generally conform to and partially surround the finger from the palmar side, and a length to extend from a proximal phalanx of the finger across the PIP joint to a middle phalanx of the finger without extending across the DIP joint. The splint body may have an integrally-formed periphery defining a central opening. The periphery may include a first base at the proximal phalanx, a second base at the middle phalanx, and opposing sides extending between the first and second bases.
Orthopedic device, method, and system for making an orthopedic device
An orthopedic device comprises a body having a monolithic structure and arranged to form a closed circumference in a secured configuration, the body having a predetermined shape in an unsecured configuration. The body is formed continuously without interruption from at least one polymeric material. A method for making the orthopedic device includes providing a schematic including a model representing a body part for which the orthopedic device is intended, providing at least one array of coordinates and indicia corresponding to the coordinates proximate to the model at a plurality of locations along the model, and providing a scale set corresponding to the coordinates. The dimensions obtained from measuring the body part may be used to form a custom-shaped orthopedic device.
A SPLINT FOR AN INFANT
The invention relates to a splint for an infant. It has a body including an insert of a malleable material, wherein the body has a longitudinal axis, a first arm extending from an edge of the body in a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis; and a second arm, spaced apart from the first arm, extending from the edge of the body in a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The arms wrap around the limb of the infant and provide a surface for using medical tape or the like, thus avoiding the need for the tape to come into contact with the skin of the infant. In addition, the malleable insert allows the splint to be deformed and hold its shape if the splint is to be used on a joint of the limb.
ARTHRITIS CORRECTION AND FIXATION DEVICE
An arthritis correction and fixation device is used to connect distal and middle phalanges of a finger. The arthritis correction and fixation device includes a first unit, a second unit and a connection unit. The first unit connects with the distal phalange and has a first threaded portion and a first connecting portion. The second unit connects with the middle phalange and has a second threaded portion and a second connecting portion. The first connecting portion and the second connecting portion are connected through the connection unit, so that the first unit and the second unit can actuate relative to each other. When the first threaded portion is rotated, the first connecting portion drives the second unit to move together in a direction away from the first threaded portion, thereby changing a distance between the distal and middle phalanges.
Immobilisation element and additive manufacturing method for making same
This invention relates to a method for manufacturing an individualized immobilization element for the non-invasive immobilization and/or mobilization of at least a segment of a body part of a patient in a predetermined position relative to a reference and/or in a pre-certain configuration. The method comprises the steps of (i) providing a data set that comprises a three-dimensional image of an outer contour of at least a part of the segment of the body part to be immobilized and/or mobilized and (ii) the manufacture of at least a part of the immobilization element by rapid manufacturing of a shape on the basis of said data set using a polymeric material containing a thermoplastic polymer having a melting point less than or equal to 100 C., wherein the polymer material contains a nucleating agent for enhancing the of the crystallization of the thermoplastic polymer.
Orthopedic thumb splint and method for stabilizing the trapeziometacarpal joint of a user
An orthopedic thumb splint is adapted for stabilizing a carpometacarpal joint of a user. The exemplary thumb splint includes a flexible fabric splint body having a wrist portion and a generally funnel-shaped thumb portion. The thumb portion defines a narrowed opening for receiving a thumb of the user. A thumb-abducting flexible X-strap is secured to the splint body adjacent the narrowed opening of the thumb portion. The X-strap has first and second diverging distal ends having respective inside surfaces. The inside surface of each distal end includes touch fasteners designed to releasably mate with complementary touch fasteners located on an outside surface of the splint body.
MOBILIZING MUSCULOSKELETAL STRUCTURES
An injured musculoskeletal structure is mobilized relative to a juxtaposing support structure surface to isolate the injured musculoskeletal structure from forces transferred from adjoining musculoskeletal structures in order to alleviate pain, discomfort, inflammation, and further injury associated with such transferred forces.
