Systems and Methods for Treating Spinal Deformities
Systems and methods of treating spinal deformity, including one or more intervertebral implants to be introduced laterally into respective intervertebral spaces, a plurality of bone screws introduced generally laterally into vertebral bodies adjacent to the intervertebral implants and/or the intervertebral implants themselves, and a cable dimensioned to be coupled to the bone screws and manipulated to adjust and/or correct the spinal deformity.
Low profile spinal tethering devices
Methods and devices for treating spinal deformities are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a low-profile spinal anchoring device is provided for receiving a spinal fixation element, such as a tether, therethrough. The device generally includes a staple body that is adapted to seat a spinal fixation element, a fastening element for fixing the staple body to bone, and a locking assembly for coupling a spinal fixation element to the staple body. In one embodiment, the locking assembly includes a washer that is adapted to couple to the staple body such that the spinal fixation is disposed therebetween, and a locking nut that is adapted to engage the staple body to mate the washer to the staple body.
SPINAL IMPLANT SYSTEM AND METHOD
A method for treating a spine comprising the steps of: connecting at least one first fastener that defines an implant cavity with at least one vertebral level of a first portion of vertebrae; connecting at least one second fastener with at least one vertebral level of a second portion of the vertebrae; manipulating the vertebrae; manipulating a spinal rod to a selected configuration; connecting the spinal rod with the at least one first fastener such that the spinal rod is disposed at a selected position with the implant cavity; connecting a tether to a second fastener and the spinal rod; and reducing the spinal rod to a selected position relative to the second fastener with the tether. Systems, spinal constructs and surgical instruments are disclosed.
APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR SPOOLED VERTEBRAL ANCHORS
Apparatus and method for dynamic connection between adjacent bones. Various embodiments pertain to a bone anchor that includes a rotatable spool, the spool being configured to place tension on a flexible member, such as a tether, suture, cable, or other. Still further embodiments pertain to tools for interconnecting two bone anchors with a tether.
DYNAMIC STABILIZATION WITH RELEASABLE END BLOCKER-BUMPER
A medical implant assembly having at least two bone attachment structures cooperating with a dynamic longitudinal connecting member, the improvement wherein the connecting member includes: a first end, a transition portion, and a second end; a substantially rod portion extending longitudinally from the first end to the transition portion, and including a longitudinal axis and a substantially rigid core running substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis; a substantially cord portion joined with the rod portion and extending from the transition portion to the second end; and a substantially flexible jacket portion covering the rod and cord portions.
Spinal curvature modulation systems and methods
Spinal curvature modulation systems, methods and related devices and instrumentation are disclosed, which include a flexible tether, a tether tensioning unit and bone anchors for the flexible tether that allow the tether to be secured across multiple vertebrae in a region of treatment. When the flexible tether is attached to multiple vertebrae, it can be used to correct spinal deformities. Tension in the flexible tether is adjustable transcutaneously without invasive surgical procedures by use of remotely driven actuators, such as a magnet-driven motor, or by a small tool insertable through a small incision. Disclosed systems and methods thus allow for multiple adjustments of tether tension, and spinal curvature, over time without repeated, highly invasive, spinal surgeries.
Nesting tether clamping assemblies and related methods and apparatus
Tether clamping assemblies, such as clamping assemblies used to clamp a tether about a spinal feature to assist in spinal fixation, and related methods and systems. In some embodiments, the assembly may comprise a tether configured to engage a bone or other anatomical feature, an inner coupling piece, and an outer coupling piece. A first passage may be at least partially defined by an inner surface of the outer coupling piece and an outer surface of the inner coupling piece. The first passage may be configured such that the tether can be clamped in between the inner surface and the outer surface to allow the tether to move through the first passage in a first direction and apply a force differential such that movement of the tether in a second direction opposite the first direction is made more difficult.
Cannulated endplate plunger assembly
A cannulated plunger assembly for setting a tether with anchors on both ends to extend between adjacent vertebrae. The cannulated form enables minimally invasive access to an evacuated space between the vertebral endplates. Each of the anchors are coupled to a respective one of a pair of plunger arms, the plunger arms being configured to deploy the anchors beyond an outer radius of a tubular housing. In some embodiments, in a retracted configuration, the pair of plunger arms are surrounded by the housing, and in a deployed configuration, the pair of plunger arms extend through an open distal end of and beyond an outer radius of the housing to drive the anchors into the vertebral end plates.
Dynamic stabilization with releasable end blocker-bumper
An improved dynamic longitudinal connecting member includes a rod portion joined with a tensioned cord portion, for use in a medical implant assembly having at least two bone attachment structures, a spacer covering the join of the rod and cord portions and extending between the at least two bone attachment structures, a sleeve, a bumper and a cord blocker. The spacer and bumper are compressed. The cord portion is slidable with respect to at least one of the bone attachment members.
