BONE SCAFFOLD IMPROVEMENTS

Bone graft scaffold arrangements are described that can be used in minimally invasive posterolateral spinal fusion. The bone graft scaffold apparatus comprise a housing which comprises a cavity for receiving bone growth promoting materials and a plurality of apertures. In use these allow bone and blood vessels to grow through the plurality of apertures to form the bone bridge between vertebrae. Further the bone graft scaffold apparatus comprise at least one opening in the housing for receiving a shaft of an orthopaedic device, such as rod linking pedicle screws, or the shaft of a pedicle screw, or another suitable shaft in another surgical procedure. The apparatus can be attached to structural components such as rods and screws and used to form a continuous scaffold between vertebras to assist in forming a bone bridge.

AN INTERVERTEBRAL FUSION CAGE IMPLANT AND SURGICAL PROCEDURE THEREFOR
20220304819 · 2022-09-29 ·

An intervertebral fusion cage implant is generally elongate and defines superior and inferior bearing surfaces. The inferior bearing surface has vertebral body engaging interferences and the superior bearing surface has a substantially smooth surface profile, sagittal plane convexity and sagittal plane curvature asymmetry. The sagittal plane convexity defines a saggital plane axis rising anteriorly with respect to a horizontal saggital plane axis. The superior bearing surface defines a central section having coronal plane convexity and lateral sections adjacent the central section.

Implant for bone and cartilage reconstruction

The aim of the invention is to restore the mobility of an articular end (2) of a bone (3) of a patient by means of a reconstruction implant. This implant (1), which permits reconstruction both of bone and of cartilage, comprises a grated framework (10) and a sheet (20) made of a biological tissue material, this sheet firmly covering one face (11) of the framework, while the opposite face (12) is designed to be pressed rigidly against, and firmly joined to, the end of the bone.

Expandable interbody spacer

An expandable interbody spacer for the spine is provided. The spacer includes upper and lower endplates simultaneously movable with respect to a housing along an axis traverse to a longitudinal axis to increase or decrease the height of the spacer selectably along both an anterior side and a posterior side for uniform expansion/contraction of the endplates or only along the anterior side for angular expansion/contraction of the endplates. A spacer deployment instrument is provided that is selectable to effect uniform or angular expansion/contraction. When uniform expansion/contraction is selected a gear on an anterior rod is engaged with a gear on a posterior rod to simultaneously rotate both rods in opposite directions. Opposite threads on actuators of the spacer effect translation of the actuators in the same direction along the longitudinal axis.

Intervertebral prosthesis

An intervertebral prosthesis for insertion between adjacent vertebrae includes an upper plate, a lower plate and a core. The core is retained between the upper and lower plates by a retention feature in the form of central projections on the plates and a corresponding opening in the core. The retention feature is designed to allow the plates to slide over the upper and lower surfaces of the core in the anterior/posterior direction and in the lateral direction and to allow the plates to rotate with respect to each other and the core. The retention feature is also designed to prevent contact between the first and second plates during sliding movement of the plates over the core.

Cervical distraction/implant delivery device

Systems for distracting a facet joint and positioning a permanent implant in the joint are disclosed. The implants serve to retain a distracted position of the facet joint which is achieved with positioning of the leading end of a distraction tool in the facet joint and then distracting or enlarging the joint a desired amount. The permanent implant could be part of the distraction mechanism which can be separated from the delivery tool once the joint has been distracted or an auxiliary implant may be positioned before the distraction mechanism is removed from the distracted joint. The permanent implants can be solid, mechanical devices that may have fixation means thereon to hold them in place or injected fluids such as hydrogels or fluids confined within balloons.

METHOD AND IMPLANT DEVICE FOR GRAFTING ADJACENT VERTEBRAL BODIES

A methodology for grafting together adjacent bony structures is provided using an implant device having an endplate with an inner disc portion and outer ring portion spaced from the inner disc portion by a connecting wall disposed therebetween. An endplate interior surface includes a retaining structure for securing the endplate to one of the bony structures, and endplate an exterior surface has an integrally formed socket. A ball-joint rod has a longitudinally extending body and an end, and at least a portion of the ball-joint rod end is curvilinear in shape. The curvilinear ball-joint rod end is rotatably disposed in the endplate socket to fixedly interconnect the bony structures.

Unitary spinal disc implant

A unitary intervertebral device, having no moving components is provided for non-fusion articulation and fusion applications. The interbody articulating device allows for limited flexion and rotation between the implant and an adjacent vertebrae, helping to preserve or restore near-normal motion between adjacent vertebrae. Rotational motion is achieved through one or more protrusions incorporated into the spinal interbody device. In one articulating form, a first protrusion extends perpendicularly from one bearing surface of the interbody device to form a rotational protrusion, while at least a second protrusion extends from the opposite bearing surface of the interbody device to form a non-rotational protrusion. In another form, a single protrusion extends axially from one bearing surface of the interbody device to form a spike or anchoring, rotating protrusion, while the opposite bearing surface may be slightly rounded and/or comprising a bone-ingrowth promoting surface. Similarly configured fusion salvage devices are also described.
