Assemblies for identifying a power injectable access port

A method of power injecting a contrast medium into a patient, including obtaining a power-injectable access port suitable for power injection. The power injectable access port includes a housing defining a reservoir, and a septum. The septum may include a self-sealing material, and a radiopaque material. The radiopaque material may form a selected pattern when an x-ray is taken through the septum for identifying the power-injectable access port as being suitable for power injection. The power-injectable access port may be structured for accommodating a pressure developed within the reservoir of at least 35 psi, and may be designed to accommodate a fluid flow rate of at least 1 milliliter per second. After implanting the power-injectable access port in the patient, the method may include imaging the power-injectable access port and confirming via the selected pattern in the septum that the power-injectable access port is suitable for injecting the contrast medium.

Needle shielding systems are disclosed. The needle shielding system comprises a needle, a cover sleeve, and a needle shield. The needle has a needle tip and a needle bulge spaced apart from the needle tip. The cover sleeve is slidably mounted over the needle and comprises an end portion having an internal diameter smaller than the width of the needle bulge, and a cover sleeve shaft extending from the end portion towards the needle tip and having an internal diameter larger than the width of the needle bulge. The needle shield comprises a base plate slidably mounted over the needle adjacent to the end portion, and at least one resilient arm extending from the base plate towards the needle tip. In use the needle shield and cover sleeve move along the needle until the end portion contacts the needle bulge and the cover sleeve shaft and the arm cover the needle tip.

Catheter insertion device

Embodiments of a catheter insertion device are discussed comprising: an approximately hollow cylindrical catheter sleeve, at whose distal end a catheter is attached; a needle sleeve with a hollow needle, which is attached thereto and which, when ready for use, extends through the catheter sleeve and the catheter, and; a needle protective element that is arranged inside the catheter sleeve while being able to move on the needle. Said needle protective element has an engaging section that engages with an engaging device, which is formed in the vicinity of the needle tip, when the hollow needle is withdrawn from the catheter sleeve. A check valve is placed inside the catheter sleeve between the catheter and the needle protective element. The hollow needle, when ready for use, extends through said check valve, and the check valve automatically closes once the needle is withdrawn.

Syringe Protecting Device

A syringe protecting device equipped with an outer cylinder, an inner cylinder and a spring, wherein, when the spring is released from its compressed state, the inner cylinder is moved rearward with respect to the outer cylinder so that a syringe needle is stored inside the outer cylinder, and the syringe protecting device further equipped with a releasable pre-locking mechanism for fixing the inner cylinder to the outer cylinder while maintaining the spring in the compressed state in the front-rear direction, wherein, the pre-locking mechanism fixes the inner cylinder before movement to the outer cylinder by engaging the protruding sections of the ring with the engaging sections of the through groove sections.

Systems for isolation of a needle-based infusion set
10143799 · 2018-12-04 · ·

A safety needle assembly of an infusion set for infusing fluids into a subcutaneously implanted access port is disclosed. The needle assembly is configured to prevent fluid/vapor escape therefrom so as to reduce or prevent fluid exposure to a clinician using the needle assembly. In one embodiment, the needle assembly comprises a handle portion including a needle extending therefrom, the needle defining a lumen for passage of a fluid therethrough. The needle assembly also includes a safety assembly defining a needle hole through which the needle initially extends. The safety assembly is selectively and axially slidable along the needle in order to shield a distal tip of the needle and prevent user contact therewith. A fluid isolation component is included in the safety assembly for isolating fluid escape from the needle to prevent exposure to a clinician.
