The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for the separation and removal of carbon dioxide from a liquid, for example, seawater. The systems include an extraction system that collects carbon dioxide from the seawater through a medium, and removes carbon dioxide from the medium; the extraction systems comprising a reactor and a membrane. Alternatively, the extraction system includes a reactor, a membrane and a catalyst.

System for extended storage of red blood cells and methods of use
A system and methodology for the preservation of red blood cells is described in which red blood cells are oxygen or oxygen and carbon dioxide depleted, treated and are stored in an anaerobic environment to optimize preparation for transfusion. More particularly, a system and method for extended storage of red blood cells from collection to transfusion that optimizes red blood cells prior to transfusion is described.

A method of treating a switchable polarity material comprises introducing a first feed stream comprising a solvent and a non-polar form of the switchable polarity material to a first side of a gas diffusion membrane. A second feed stream comprising an acid gas is introduced to a second side of the gas diffusion membrane opposing the first side of the gas diffusion membrane. Molecules of the acid gas of the second feed stream are diffused across the gas diffusion membrane and into the first feed stream to form a product stream comprising a polar form of the switchable polarity material. A treatment system for a switchable polarity material, and a method of liquid treatment are also described.

Provided is a hollow fiber degassing module which includes a hollow fiber membrane bundle obtained by bundling a plurality of hollow fiber membranes in a cylindrical shape and a cylindrical body receiving the hollow fiber membrane bundle and extending in an axial direction and degasses a liquid by supplying the liquid to the outside of the hollow fiber membrane and depressurizing the inside of the hollow fiber membrane, in which a hollow fiber membrane packing ratio which is a ratio of a sum of an apparent cross-sectional area of the hollow fiber membrane with respect to an apparent cross-sectional area of the hollow fiber membrane bundle is in a range of 43% or less.

An apparatus for filtration has a feed of sludge, containing liquid, solids and gases fed into a tank, the tank containing at least one spinning separation filter comprising a filter cone set having a filter screen, and a barrier cone, arranged roughly in parallel, and defining a conical workspace between them, the conical workspace having a peripheral opening to the tank and a central opening communicating with the interiors of one or more hollow shafts supporting the barrier cone and the filter cone, the upper shaft supporting the barrier cone having an upper axial channel for the exit of gases, the lower shaft supporting the center of the filter cone having a lower axial channel for the exit of liquid or oil, motor means for producing rotation in said at least one spinning separation filter, and a filtrate liquid reservoir located underneath the filter cone for capturing the filtrate passing through the filter screen.
