Filtration device and filtration method
A filtration device includes a container, a channel member, and a filter. The container has a space of variable volume that contains a liquid, the liquid including a target substance to be separated by filtration. The channel member includes a channel and an opening that are defined therein, the opening being provided at a position along the channel in a direction transverse to the direction in which the channel extends. The channel member has an attachment part to which the container is attached and which provides communication between the space in the container and the channel. The filter is attached inside the channel member and positioned at the opening.
Skimming devices and related methods
Skimming devices may use pressurized water from, for example, a return line of a swimming pool or spa. The devices may be adjustable vertically and levelled relative to an upper water surface (waterline) of a pool. They additionally may create “blades” of debris-laden pool water entering their floating heads so as to move debris smoothly and efficiently over wings or foils into associated filters.
Injection molded screening apparatuses and methods
A disclosed screening apparatus includes a subgrid, and a screen element attached to the subgrid via laser welding at a plurality of attachment positions such that, under vibrational excitation, the screen element has a pre-determined profile of vibrational motion relative to the subgrid. The screen element may be attached at a maximal number of attachment locations to the subgrid to minimize relative motion of the screen element and the subgrid under vibrational excitation, or the screen element may be attached a sub-set of the maximal number of attachment locations to allow vibrational motion of the screen element relative to the subgrid. A disclosed method may include attaching a plurality of screen elements to a respective plurality of subgrids, attaching the plurality of subgrids to one another to form a screening pre-assembly, and cutting edges of the screening pre-assembly to form the screen assembly having a perimeter with a pre-determined shape.
OIL FILTER HOUSING AND SYSTEM
An apparatus facilitates multiple paths or circuits through an engine and remote housing for an oil filter. The apparatus includes a first oil filter chamber housing a first oil filter, a second oil filter chamber housing a second oil filter, a first output of the remote housing configured to provide a path from the first oil filter chamber housing to bearings of an engine, a second output of the remote housing configured to provide a path from the second oil filter chamber housing to a sump of the engine, and an input of the remote housing configured to provide a path from an oil pump of the engine to the first oil filter chamber housing.
Separation of cells based on size and affinity using paper microfluidic device
A microfluidic device includes a first layer of a porous material with pores having a first average pore size and a liquid-receiving area through which a liquid sample is received into the microfluidic device. A second layer of another porous material, with pores of a second average pore size, is stacked below the first layer and has a channel with a starting end positioned at least in part in an overlapping manner with the liquid-receiving area. The channel has a terminating end extending laterally at a predetermined wicking distance from the starting end. The first average pore size and the second average pore size cause a wicking effect in which at least some of the liquid sample flows along the channel at least a portion of the wicking distance between the starting end and the terminating end.
