Systems and methods are disclosed that include providing a filter assembly having a filter housing and a filter medium disposed within and/or carried by the filter housing. The filter medium is configured to be exposed to an external environment and collect, filter, or otherwise remove aerosols (which may be contaminated with bacteria, viruses, or a combination thereof) from the external environment when coupled to an evacuation component, such as a dental high vacuum evacuation (HVE) line.

A funnel is provided, including: a main body, being a transparent plastic member which is integrally formed of one piece by injection, including an enlarged section, an intermediate section and a joint section which are connected in sequence in an axial direction, the intermediate section being in communication with and between the enlarged section and the joint section, the main body being provided with an exhaust conduit, the exhaust conduit being in communication with an interior of the joint section and in communication with an outside of the funnel.

The microperforated filter may be permanent and reusable, or may be disposable. The disposable filter is preferably made from flexible aluminum foil and recyclable. The apparatus and method support modification of filter size, microperforation size, perforation density, air pressure, air flow and vibratory action to vary beverage filtration rate and finished beverage composition.
