FILTER HOLDER FOR EXTRUSION OF LIPOSOMES
A filter holder for liposome extrusion includes a housing having an inlet configured to receive a material to be extruded and an outlet, and a filter support member disposed within the housing between the inlet and the outlet. The filter support member includes an upstream side having a filter support surface configured to support a membrane filter assembly, a downstream side opposite the upstream side, and a plurality of passages extending through the filter support member from the filter support surface to the downstream side. The filter holder also includes an outlet cavity in fluid communication with the outlet, and the filter holder is configured such that the material to be extruded flows through the membrane filter assembly and into the outlet cavity via the plurality of passages before being discharged through the outlet.
Macroporous filtration membrane

A SEMI-CRYSTALLINE POLYMER MEMBRANE
There is provided a semi-crystalline polymer membrane, the membrane being a single-layer membrane and su-perwettable without provision of a coating or additives. There is also provided a method of forming the membrane comprising: depositing a solution on a substrate surface, the solution comprising a semi-crystalline polymer to form a nascent membrane; spraying a fluid on the nascent membrane; and immersing the nascent membrane in a non-solvent to form the semi-crystalline polymer membrane. In preferred embodiments, the fluid sprayed on the nascent membrane is selected from compressed air, water, a mixture of ethanol and water, or a solid suspension of ethanol/water/sodium chloride.

Separating Device for Separating at Least One Undesired Fluid from a Liquid, Membrane of a Separating Device, Filter, Filter Element, and Liquid System
A separating device for separating an undesired fluid from a multi-component liquid has a region flowed through by the multi-component liquid and at least one membrane disposed in the region to separate a first fluid region from a second fluid region. The membrane has a first permeability to the undesired fluid and a second permeability to the multi-component liquid. The first permeability is different from the second permeability. The membrane is equally permeable to all components of the multi-component liquid. The membrane is permeable to the multi-component liquid and impermeable to the undesired fluid, or the membrane is impermeable to the multi-component liquid and is permeable to the undesired fluid, wherein the multi-component liquid is a liquid multi-component operating medium. A filter with such a separating device and a filter element, in particular for diesel fuel, as well as a liquid system with such a separating device are described.

POROUS FLAT DEFORMATION-RESISTANT MEMBRANE
Porous membranes are provided according to the invention having desirable coefficient of thermal expansion and large surface area, for example at least about 4,000 mm.sup.2. These porous membranes may be made according to an exemplary process employing lithographic patterning of a photoresist followed by development of the photoresist and etching. In one aspect, the etch barrier layer is chosen from a material that does not react with or incorporate metal or other contaminants into the membrane layer.
Porous separation article
The invention relates to a porous separation article having a fluoropolymer or polyamide binder interconnecting one or more types of interactive powdery materials or fibers. The interconnectivity is such that the binder connects the powdery materials or fibers in discrete spots rather than as a complete coating, allowing the materials or fibers to be in direct contact with, and interact with a fluid. The resulting article is a formed multicomponent, interconnected web, with porosity. The separation article is useful in water purification, as well as in the separation of dissolved or suspended materials in both aqueous and non-aqueous systems in industrial uses. The separation article can function at ambient temperature, as well as at elevated temperatures.
