Aquaporin Z integrated membrane production method

Integrating an aquaporin Z protein addition to an outer surface of hollow fiber membranes and a production method of aquaporin Z integrated hollow fiber membranes using different hollow fiber support membranes are provided. The production method includes polymeric, nanocomposite materials. When an aquaporin protein integrated onto reinforced hollow fiber membranes, increase in a mechanical strength and a flux of the reinforced hollow fiber membranes was observed.

Membranes, methods of making the membranes, and methods of using the membranes are described herein. The membranes can comprise a support layer, and a selective polymer layer disposed on the support layer. In some cases, the support layer can comprise a gas permeable polymer and hydrophilic additive dispersed within the gas permeable polymer. In some cases, the selective polymer layer can comprise a selective polymer matrix and carbon nanotubes dispersed within the selective polymer matrix. The membranes can exhibit selective permeability to gases. As such, the membranes can be for the selective removal of carbon dioxide and/or hydrogen sulfide from hydrogen and/or nitrogen.

Catalytic hydrogel membrane reactor for treatment of aqueous contaminants

Provided are catalytic assemblies which include a hollow fiber membrane permeable to a gas; a reactive coating permeable to the gas and a contaminant; and a plurality of catalytic nanoparticles embedded in the reactive coating adapted to catalyze a reaction between the gas and the contaminant. Also provided are preparation methods for the catalytic assemblies, and use thereof for treating contaminated water.

A process for preparing a semi-permeable membrane includes providing an aqueous phase comprising a polyfunctional amine monomer, covering a surface of a porous support membrane with the aqueous phase, applying an organic phase comprising a polyfunctional acyl halide monomer, a phosphorous containing compound and a co-solvent, and allowing the polyfunctional amine monomer and the polyfunctional acyl halide monomer to perform an interfacial polymerization reaction to form a polyamide thin film composite layer.

The presence of the co-solvent together with the phosphorous compound in the organic phase potentiates the effect of the phosphorous compound so that the water flux is increased without substantially sacrificing the salt rejection.

Filtration membranes

Modified membranes include an inorganic material within an outer portion of the modified membrane and a polymeric core that remains unmodified by the inorganic material. The polymer may be removed leaving an inorganic material patterned from an initial unmodified polymeric membrane.
