Aspects herein include filter systems including short-range wireless tracking features to detect insertion and/or removal of filter elements from filter systems. In an embodiment, a filtration system is included having a housing including a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. The housing can define an internal volume. A first filter element can be removably disposed within the housing. A short-range wireless communication tag can be associated with the first filter element. A short-range wireless communication reader can be associated with the housing, the reader configured to wirelessly send data to and receive data from the tag when the reader and the tag are at a distance that is less than or equal to a maximum communication distance. Removal of the first filter element from the housing can cause the distance between the tag and the reader to exceed the maximum communication distance. Other embodiments are also included herein.

An IC tag is attached to a filter element and a contact of the IC tag with liquid is avoidable. An IC tag is provided inside an upper plate provided so as to cover an upper end surface of a filter medium in a filter element. An fluid monitoring system can include a filter having an upstream face and a downstream face and defining a form factor, a sensor package arranged within the form factor of the filter to detect at least one quality factor of a surrounding medium, a transmitter electronically coupled to the sensor package and including an antenna for autonomous wireless transmission of the detected fluid quality information, and a power subsystem coupled to the sensor package and the transmitter to provide access to continuous electrical power thereto.

A fluid filtration system may include a fluid filter assembly that includes a filter element configured to filter a fluid and a sensor probe incorporated into the fluid filter assembly. A filtering device for removing solids from water. Within the filtering device, water, under the force of gravity, flows through successive porous members. Plates are used to distribute the water prior to the water flowing through the porous members. Rotating brushes are used to removed retained solids from the porous members. The brushes are preferably returned to a home position when not being utilized to remove solids in which they are maintained out of contact with the porous members.

An engine breather filter assembly for monitoring an internal combustion comprises: a filter cavity configured to accommodate a breather filter element; a processor; and a sensor module configured to sense a characteristic of the internal combustion engine and output data representative of the sensed characteristic to the processor. The engine breather filter assembly is configured to provide a housing for the processor. The processor is configured to determine a value representative of the firing frequency of the internal combustion engine based on the output data.
