The present invention is directed to a process for removing gas phase nitrogen-based compounds by absorption into a liquid stream. The absorbed nitrogen-based compound is reacted with an acid to produce a nitrogen-based product. The nitrogen-based compound, the acid, and the resulting nitrogen-based product may be organic compounds, i.e. compounds derived from animal matter or plant matter and the nitrogen-based product may be a fertilizer that may be used in organic agriculture or the production of certified organic foods. Processes are also described for removing nitrogen-based compounds from a liquid stream to produce a nitrogen-based product, including organic fertilizers. One process includes producing cavitation bubbles into which a liquid phase nitrogen-based compound is stripped, followed by absorption to produce a nitrogen-based product. Another process includes the use of a degassing membrane to remove a liquid phase nitrogen-based compound that is degassed to produce a nitrogen-based product, including organic fertilizers.

A method of desulfurizing a liquid hydrocarbon comprises providing an initial processing unit and an end processing unit, the initial processing unit having an initial reactor assembly and an initial sorption system, the end processing unit having an end reactor assembly, a separator and an end sorption system. The method further comprises feeding a liquid hydrocarbon having a sulfur content into the initial reactor assembly, feeding an aqueous feed into the initial reactor assembly, shear mixing the liquid hydrocarbon and the aqueous feed within the initial reactor assembly, to, in turn, react the aqueous feed with the sulfur content of the liquid hydrocarbon, and directing the liquid hydrocarbon and aqueous feed to the initial sorption system. The method even further comprises feeding a sorbent into the initial sorption system and adsorbing at least some of the sulfur content that has reacted with the aqueous feed from the liquid hydrocarbon.

A treatment composition for remediating for remediating H.sub.2S and other contaminant(s) in contaminated gasses comprising: an aqueous hydroxide solution containing at least one hydroxide compound at a collective concentration of 35-55 weight percent of the aqueous hydroxide solution; at least one organic acid selected from the group consisting of fulvic acid and humic acid; and a chelating agent, wherein the aqueous hydroxide solution constitutes at least 80 wt % of the treatment composition, the at least one organic acid constitutes 0.1-5 wt % of the treatment composition, the chelating agent constitutes 0.1-5 wt % of the treatment composition, and a pH of the treatment composition is at least 12.0.
