Production and isolation of monocyclic aromatic compounds from a gasification gas

The present invention concerns a process and system for producing and isolating a fraction of monocyclic aromatic compounds from a gasification gas. The process comprises (a) contacting the gas with a catalyst capable of converting ethylene and possibly other unsaturated hydrocarbons into monocyclic aromatic compounds; and (b) isolating monocyclic aromatic compounds from the gas originating from step (a). The present invention is ideally suited for treatment of gas from coal, biomass or waste gasification, which comprises substantial amounts of ethylene as well as monocyclic aromatic compounds. Treatment according to the invention first converts the ethylene into further monocyclic aromatic compounds, and the entire fraction of monocyclic aromatic compounds is isolated to obtain a valuable product.

Removal of monocyclic aromatic compounds (BTEX) from a gas

The present invention relates to an improved process and system for purifying a gas, preferably an energy gas, containing aromatic compounds and isolating a fraction of aromatic compounds from said gas. In the process according to the invention, the gas is contacted with a washing liquid in step (a), at a temperature of 15-250° C., to obtain a purified gas, which is depleted in aromatic compounds, and a spent washing liquid wherein the aromatic compounds are dissolved. The spent washing liquid is stripped in step (b) with a stripping gas comprising at least 50 vol. % steam, to obtain a stripped washing liquid which is advantageously reused in step (a) and a loaded stripping gas comprising the aromatic compounds. The aromatic compounds are separated from the loaded stripping gas in step (c) by condensation of the steam and/or the aromatic compounds comprised in the loaded stripping gas to obtain an immiscible composition and isolating the aromatic compounds therefrom. The cleared stripping gas which is advantageously reused in step (b).

The present invention is directed to a process for removing gas phase nitrogen-based compounds by absorption into a liquid stream. The absorbed nitrogen-based compound is reacted with an acid to produce a nitrogen-based product. The nitrogen-based compound, the acid, and the resulting nitrogen-based product may be organic compounds, i.e. compounds derived from animal matter or plant matter and the nitrogen-based product may be a fertilizer that may be used in organic agriculture or the production of certified organic foods. Processes are also described for removing nitrogen-based compounds from a liquid stream to produce a nitrogen-based product, including organic fertilizers. One process includes producing cavitation bubbles into which a liquid phase nitrogen-based compound is stripped, followed by absorption to produce a nitrogen-based product. Another process includes the use of a degassing membrane to remove a liquid phase nitrogen-based compound that is degassed to produce a nitrogen-based product, including organic fertilizers.

There are provided methods of treating a catalyst-containing reactor system with a liquid solvent to remove contaminants from the reactor system. An exemplary method includes the steps of: isolating the reactor system to be treated from upstream and downstream equipment; reducing the temperature and pressure of the isolated reactor system by flushing with a hydrogen rich gas; injecting a non-aqueous liquid solvent into the reactor system at an injection point while continuously flowing hydrogen-rich gas through the reactor system; maintaining the solvent in a liquid state while flowing the solvent continuously through the reactor system; and terminating the step of injecting solvent and terminating the continuous flowing of hydrogen-rich gas. The exemplary method is free of the injecting of a carrier gas into the reactor system comprising alkanes selected from the methane, ethane, propane, butane and pentane.

A METHOD AND AN APPARATUS FOR SEPARATING CHLORINE GAS FROM A GASEOUS ANODE OUTLET STREAM OF AN ELECTROCHEMICAL REACTOR

The invention relates to a method for separating chlorine from a gaseous anode outlet stream mass flow of an electrochemical cell reactor. In a first aspect, the method makes use of an absorption step, wherein an anode outlet stream mass flow of the electrochemical cell reactor is exposed to an organic solvent being essentially immiscible with water for achieving an exergy-efficient separation of chlorine and hydrogen chloride. In a further aspect, the method makes use of absorption step, wherein the anode outlet stream mass flow is exposed to an ionic liquid, wherein the hydrogen chloride is dissolved in said ionic liquid, thereby forming a gas flow containing essentially chlorine and a solution mass flow comprising the ionic liquid and the hydrogen chloride. The hydrogen chloride is desorbed from the solution mass flow in a desorption step. In another aspect, the method makes use of a distillation step, wherein the anode outlet stream mass flow is separated at a static pressure of at least 2 bar for an exergy-efficient separation.
