Rotary Separation Apparatus and Process

A horizontal axis rotary separation apparatus is deployed in a process for separating resinous trichomes rich in flavoring, aromatic and/or medicinal components produced in plant trichome glands from unwanted plant matter. The process physically separates resin rich beads at the trichome gland head from extraneous plant matter by one or move separation sieves. The sieves are provided in or as a casing over a rigid frame member. The sieves are mesh fabric bags or screen that are easily opened and replenished in a batch operating mode, and are removable from the frame for cleaning and maintenance. Other aspects of the invention include processes that improve process efficiency and speed, and yield products of superior quality.

The filter comprising: a first filter part adapted to direct a suction airflow generated by a vacuum module of the vacuum food processor into the filter via an inlet channel; and a second filter part adapted to coaxially fit with the first filter part and comprising a cavity, the cavity adapted to maintain non-gaseous substance that is moving along with the suction airflow inside the filter, wherein the first filter part and the second filter part jointly define an outlet channel at a bottom of first filter part, the outlet channel adapted to direct the suction airflow outside the filter. In this way, the food particles/bubbles can be prevented from entering the vacuum module, while the suction airflow is allowed to freely flow to the vacuum module.

A vacuum filter bag includes an inlet flange and gasket, a clamp positioned adjacent the inlet flange, and a plug. The clamp is operable to engage the inlet port of a canister vacuum when the filter bag is mounted in the vacuum and keeps the filter bag securely attached to the vacuum inlet. The clamp is also operable to engage the plug and keep the plug in place to close the filter bag inlet after use of the bag. The filter bag reduces user exposure to dust and debris captured with a canister vacuum.

The stationary dust collector is configured to be placed separately from the power tool and to collect dust generated by the processing operation. The dust collector includes a second motor and a fan configured to be rotationally driven by the second motor to generate air flow for collecting dust. The dust collecting system includes a control device configured to control a rotation speed of the second motor according to a driving state of the power tool.

An in-line vacuum filter comprises a manifold having an inlet, an outlet, a collecting container, and an actuatable filter paddle. A flow of air generated by a source of negative pressure travels from the inlet to the outlet. The actuatable filter paddle is positioned within the manifold such that it can be actuated between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the actuatable filter paddle is placed within the flow of air and in the second position, the actuatable filter paddle is removed from the flow of air. The filter paddle is preferably arcuate concave and comprises a plurality of apertures. In the first position, the filter paddle gradually diverts objects larger than a width of the apertures away from the flow of air. Diverted objects may travel to a removable collection container.
