The invention herein disclosed is a system that supports sampling, testing and filtering of air in selected small volumes of air within a larger air pool.

A portable air filtration and disinfection device for a respirator system includes a casing, an inhalation filter assembly, and an exhalation filter assembly. Purification assemblies and methods of use. A method of using a purification assembly, the purification assembly having a housing having a first open end and an opposite second open end, the housing defining an interior volume, and a longitudinal axis extending between the first open end and the second open end. The method includes forming a ring of UV radiation sources on an interior surface of the housing, wherein the longitudinal axis extends through the ring, and wherein at least a first set of the UV radiation sources lie on a plane. The method also includes causing the first set of UV radiation sources to emit UV radiation along the plane and flowing a stream of air through the housing toward the ring of UV radiation sources, wherein the intensity of the UV radiation exceeds a threshold along the entirety of the plane within the housing.

Fabrics, such as employed in air filters, facemasks, garments, or PPE, are coated with pathogen-binding agents, such as chemicals that bind to protein-encapsulated airborne pathogens. Some of these pathogen-binding agents include multifunctional chemicals that bind to the fabrics and to exposed proteins and/or glycans on the pathogens. Some of these pathogen-binding agents include multifunctional silanes. Some of these pathogen-binding agents include multifunctional phosphanes or phosphonates.

A detoxification device for removing pathogens from air within an environment. The detoxification device may include a filtration media for catching and retaining particles larger than about 0.3 micrometers (μm) with an efficiency of at least 99%. The detoxification device may also include a heating element having a metallic foam. The heating element may be heated upon application of an electrical current to the heating element. The heating element may, upon being heated, heat the filtration media to a target temperature that is effective to kill a pathogen.

An air purifier includes a ventilation cover, a filtering component, and a sterilization component. The ventilation cover has an air inlet and an air outlet. The filtering component is fixed at the air outlet. The sterilization component is disposed between the air inlet and the air outlet. An air ventilation device may include the air purifier.

A an example replaceable ultraviolet (UV) lamp cartridge includes: a tamper-proof UV energy absorbing shell containing one or more UV radiation emitting devices; an air inlet disposed at a first end of the tamper-proof UV energy absorbing shell; an air outlet disposed at a second end of the tamper-proof UV energy absorbing shell; and a self-aligning connector for receiving external voltage to be supplied to the UV energy emitting devices.
