Pulse Protein Isolation by Ultrafiltration
Pulse protein isolates, food compositions containing such isolates, and methods for preparing pulse protein isolates are disclosed. In some embodiments, the methods include extracting pulse proteins from a milled composition and applying the extracted proteins to an ultrafiltration process to produce pulse protein isolates with desirable organoleptic characteristics.
SYSTEM, METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PROCESSING ORGANIC MATERIAL
A system for processing organic material can include an extraction system to extract soluble compounds from the organic material using a compressed solvent to form diluted soluble compounds. The system also can include a filter system to pump and filter the diluted soluble compounds through a membrane filter. The membrane filter can remove a retentate comprising undesirable components. The membrane filter also can permit passage of a permeate comprising desirable components and the compressed solvent. The undesirable components comprise a larger molecular weight than the desirable components. The system can further include a depressurization system to depressurize the permeate and allow the compressed solvent to convert from a fluid to a gas. The depressurization system also can separate the desirable components from the gas.
Extraction of materials from liquids
An apparatus for extracting a material from a liquid includes a concentration stage having a filter, a first path from the filter, and a second path from the filter. Under this configuration, the concentration stage accepts an initial liquid volume. A first liquid not having material collected by the filter is passed along the first path, and concentrated liquid having material therein, which is entrapped by the filter, is directed to the second path. The apparatus also includes an aerosolizing stage coupled to the concentration stage that converts the concentrated liquid into an aerosol and a drying stage that dries the aerosol such that material extracted from the aerosol onto a material substrate.

The subject disclosure provides systems for electric power generation and water desalination. In certain aspects, the systems include a power generation unit such as a reciprocating generator or fuel cell having a water cooling subsystem configured to receive cool water and output warm water and a water desalination plant co-located with the power generation unit and configured to receive and desalinate the warm water. Aspects of the invention also include methods for cooling a power generation unit using a water cooling subsystem and desalinating water with a desalination plant that is co-located with the power generation unit.
Liquid-liquid mass transfer process and apparatus
A fiber bundle contactor may include a vessel including a first inlet; a second inlet; a mixing zone arranged in the vessel to receive a first fluid from the first inlet and a including fluid from the second inlet, wherein the mixing zone comprises a perforated plate assembly comprising a plate, a plurality of openings in the plate, and a plurality of riser pipes that extend from the plate and arranged to allow fluid flow through additional openings in the plate; and an extraction zone including a fiber bundle arranged in the vessel to receive the first fluid and the second fluid from the mixing zone.
METHODS FOR PREPARING HIGH COLOR CONCENTRATE WINE
The present disclosure provides methods of preparing a high color concentrate (HCC) wine. Aspects of the methods may include obtaining a grape fluid composition from one or more grapes, contacting the grape fluid composition with a reagent to modify the pH, adding an amount of distilled alcohol to the grape fluid composition to produce a fortified wine composition, and concentrating the fortified wine composition to produce an HCC wine. Aspects of the methods may further include obtaining a must from one or more grapes, fermenting the must to produce a grape fluid composition having a percent alcohol content, contacting the grape fluid composition with a reagent to modify the pH, and concentrating the grape fluid composition to produce an HCC wine. Also provided is a composition including the HCC wine produced according to the subject methods.
Water-alcohol separation system and water-alcohol separation method for producing alcohol
The invention provides a water-alcohol separation system and a method for water-alcohol separation for producing a high purity alcohol while achieving energy saving as the whole process. Namely, a water-alcohol separation system including plural separation membrane modules connected in series, a vacuum apparatus for reducing a pressure at a permeated side of each of the separation membrane modules, and a condenser for condensing a vapor that has passed through a membrane, in which plural independent vacuum systems reduce the pressure at the permeated side of the membrane of the separation membrane modules.
CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION OF RECOMBINANT PROTEINS
The present disclosure relates to methods and systems for the continuous production of recombinant proteins. In particular embodiments, the disclosure relates to methods and systems using capture chromatography, post-capture chromatography, virus filtration, and ultrafiltration/diafiltration for the continuous production of recombinant proteins.
Resource recovery method using desalination water treatment apparatus
A resource recovery method includes: feeding raw water to a first-stage raw water tank; supplying high-temperature vapor to a first-stage heat exchanger; performing heat exchange between the supplied high-temperature vapor and the raw water in the first-stage raw water tank, changing a portion of the water into vapor and supplying the changed vapor to a subsequent-stage heat exchanger; repeatedly performing the performing step for each of the raw water tanks sequentially in the order from a second state to a n-th stage; being feed to a crystallizer from the n-th stage raw water tank; detecting a turbidity of the raw water fed to the crystallizer from the n-th-stage raw water tank; and extracting crystals of valuable resources contained in the raw water fed to the crystallizer from the n-th-stage raw water tank when the turbidity of the raw water becomes a predetermined value.
