FILTRATION UNITS AND ASSEMBLY, AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING SAME
A self-contained filtration assembly with a self-contained filtration cassette therein. The cassette may be formed from one or more layers membranes and spacers (spacers, screens, or combinations thereof) all having the same general shape. The cassette may have a feed inlet path and a retentate outlet path extending through the layers of the cassette within the perimeter of the cassette, and a permeate outlet path between the cassette exterior and the interior of the cassette housing. The housing may have a generally circular or elliptical cross-section. A clamping assembly may hold together the components of the housing, and may be elongated in a direction along the flow path of the feedstream through the cassette. Various port-defining zones defined in the layers of the cassette may be sealed in a manner facilitating assembly of the cassette as well as isolation of the flow paths therein.
System and Method for Reducing the Dissolved Solids of a Non-Potable Aqueous Flow
The present disclosure describes a flow-electrode capacitive deionization (FCDI) desalination system and method of use. An FCDI desalination system is described employing one or more FCDI cells equipped with two coaxially oriented membranes mounted within a column housing capped with two end caps, each end cap comprising two carbon slurry ports and one water port. The column is lined with a chargeable sleeve capable of receiving a positive or negative charge. The annular space between the chargeable sleeve and the outside surface of the outer concentric membrane creates a flow path for a first carbon slurry to pass therethrough. The space between the inside surface of the outer concentric membrane and the outer surface of the inner concentric membrane creates a flow path for the saline water to be treated. The space within the inner annular portion of the inner concentric membrane creates a flow path for a second carbon slurry and contains a chargeable rod or wire capable of receiving an opposite charge. The first and second opposed end caps on the column are outfitted to continue these independent flow paths. As the saline water travels through its flow path, its salt ions are removed through the coaxial membranes via the two carbon slurries.
Ecologically sustainable hydraulic fracturing system and method
An induced symbiotic osmosis system and method for treating produced fluids from a hydraulic fracturing process or system for symbiotic fluids fractionation, salinity power generation, brines and salts solution reverse osmosis. The system includes a reverse osmosis membrane assembly to create potable water from produced water. The membrane assembly includes a hollow fiber or flat sheet membrane and headers to transfer desalinated water therefrom. The system can include an electro coagulation system, an ultra or nano filtration system, and a desalter to treat the produced water or brine. A heat exchanger can be positioned between adjacent reverse osmosis membrane assemblies. An osmotic power generation unit can create electrical power by receiving and utilizing produce water and brine water from a brine storage. The system reduces the release of global warming contributing gases associated with hydraulic fracturing, while producing potable water and power.
DEVICES FOR PURIFYING A LIQUID, AND RELATED SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Described are devices for purifying a liquid that is contained in a sealable container, to storage systems for containing and purifying a liquid, and to related methods.
Hollow fiber membrane bundle
The present disclosure relates to bundles of hollow fiber membranes and a process for their production. The bundles are used for the manufacture of filtration and/or diffusion devices, e.g., capillary dialyzers.
Membrane Distillation Module and Membrane Distillation Apparatus
Provided is a membrane distillation module 100 comprising a membrane distillation membrane cartridge 10 and a membrane distillation housing 20, wherein: the membrane cartridge 10 comprises a membrane anchoring part 12 in which porous membranes 11 are anchored by anchoring resin; the housing 20 comprises a housing body 30 and a housing lid 40; the membrane distillation module 100 comprises a support part 60 where the outer surface of the membrane anchoring part 12 is supported by the inner surface of the housing 20 with a seal member 50 interposed therebetween; and a value C in the cross section of the support part 60 is at least 30° C. as represented by the following formula, where d.sub.F is the equivalent circular diameter (mm) of the outer circumference of the membrane anchoring part 12, k.sub.F is the linear expansion coefficient (1/° C.) of the anchoring resin, d.sub.E is the equivalent circular diameter (mm) of the inner circumference of the housing 20; and k.sub.E is the linear expansion coefficient (1/° C.) of a portion where the housing 20 contacts the seal member 50.
Perfusion filtration system
Disclosed herein is a perfusion filtration module or bioreactor for filtering a fluid, wherein the filtration module or bioreactor has a plurality of hollow fiber filter membranes that are splayed to reduce fouling of the filtration array.
Gas separation membrane cartridge with clamshell retainer
A cartridge for non-cryogenically separating a gas into components includes a plurality of hollow polymeric fibers, the fibers being anchored by a pair of tubesheets, each tubesheet being adjacent to a head, the tubesheet and head being joined by a clamshell retainer. The cartridge does not have a core tube. The fibers are enclosed within a sleeve, the sleeve being sufficiently thin so as to be a non-structural element. The cartridge may be inserted within a larger pressure vessel. The cartridge of the present invention can accommodate more fibers than comparable cartridges of the prior art, and therefore has greater throughput.
FLUID-SEPARATION CARBON MEMBRANE MODULE
An object of the present invention is to provide a fluid-separation carbon membrane module that can suppress defects on a surface of a carbon membrane or breakage of the carbon membrane and suppress suction of a potting material even in a case where a carbon membrane having low ductility is used, and the main idea of the present invention is a fluid-separation carbon membrane module in which a plurality of covered carbon membranes in which at least one covering yarn is helically wound around one or two fluid-separation carbon membranes are housed in a vessel.
