Silica Dioxide -Polyethersulfone Conductive Ultrafiltration Membrane: Methods for Ultrafiltration Membrane Preparation and Application
A method for preparing a SiO.sub.2-polyethersulfone conductive ultrafiltration membrane and the ultrafiltration membrane comprises hydrophilic CF cloth as the conductive membrane base, which provides an effective carrier for the preparation of a stable and efficient conductive membrane. After pretreatment, the silica solution was combined with the membrane via film scraping. Then phase catalysis and polymerization of PES onto the film obtained the final silica dioxide-polyethersulfone conductive ultrafiltration membrane. The silica solution was applied in the form of a coating on the hydrophilic CF cloth, in which silicon dioxide combined with the hydrophilic CF cloth, avoiding electrochemical interference. The modified hydrophilic CF cloth improved the hydrophilicity of the conductive film, with silica firmly attaching to PES and improving the stability of the SiO.sub.2-polyethersulfone conductive ultrafiltration membrane. After 8 cycles of reuse, the performance of the membrane remained stable.
Desalination membranes
Polymer-based membranes and methods for fabricating membranes are described. The methods include forming a casting solution featuring a plurality of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based solvent, and a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-based modifying agent, dispersing the casting solution to form a first element, generating a plurality of active sites on a surface of the first element, and forming a polymer-based membrane by exposing the surface of the first element to a fluorosilane composition to form a fluorosilane layer on the surface, where the fluorosilane composition includes a silane compound having at least one alkyl substituent that includes between 9 and 21 fluorine atoms.
CHEMICALLY MODIFIED ANION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE AND METHOD OF PREPARING THE SAME
The present invention relates to a chemically modified anion exchange membrane and a method of preparing the same and, more particularly, an anion exchange membrane in which sulfonic acid groups in a perfluorinated sulfonic acid electrolyte membrane are substituted with anion conductive groups such as ammonium group, phosphonium group, imidazolium group, pyridinium group and sulfonium group, and a method of preparing an anion exchange membrane by chemically modifying sulfonic acid groups in a perfluorinated sulfonic acid electrolyte membrane.
Asymmetric composite membrane and a method of preparation thereof
Asymmetric composite membranes and methods for their preparation are disclosed. The membranes comprise a cross-linked poly(vinyl alcohol) polymer coated on a film of cross-linked sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) adhered to a sheet of hydrophilicitized microporous polyolefin. The microporous polyolefin is typically microporous poly(ethylene). The membranes have improved selectivity with the regard to the rejection of solutes in reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration applications.
Functional fluid gate control system
The present disclosure discloses a functional fluid gating control system, which comprises a porous membrane and a functional fluid. The functional fluid at least partially infiltrates the porous membrane and cooperates to form a fluid gating pathway. The functional fluid and/or the porous membrane responds to at least one stimulus and undergoes a physical change or a chemical change to change the threshold pressure of the transport substance. A transport fluid being immiscible with the functional fluid is controlled to pass through the fluid gating system, and thus controllable transport and multiphase separation of materials are achieved. The stimulus of the present disclosure comprises a wide range of sources, and the stimulus responsiveness of the functional fluid and the porous membrane can be randomly and freely combined to adapt to multiple stimuli from complex external conditions and achieve intelligent controllability.
SILOXANE HYBRID MEMBRANES FOR ENHANCED NATURAL GAS LIQUID RECOVERY
This disclosure relates to functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) and polymeric membranes containing the functionalized POSS. This disclosure also relates to methods of using the membranes for natural gas liquid recovery, such as removal and recovery of C.sub.3+ hydrocarbons from natural gas.
Boron-containing porous membranes and methods of use thereof
A proton exchange membrane includes a porous structural framework and a boron-based acid group bonded to the porous structural framework. The porous structural framework may be formed of an amorphous or crystalline inorganic material and/or a synthetic or natural polymer. The boron-based acid group may be a tetravalent boric acid derivative, such as a cyclic boric acid derivative, borospiranic acid, or a borospiranic acid derivative. The boron-based acid group may be the reaction product of boric acid or a boric acid derivative and a poly-hydroxy compound.
Grafted polysulfone membranes
A polysulfone membrane is modified so that monomers are grafted onto the surface of the membrane. The polysulfone membranes can be grafted by contacting the membrane with a grafting solution and exposing the membrane to electromagnetic radiation, typically within the ultraviolet portion of the spectrum. The monomers that are grafted are typically anionic or cationic. The grafted membranes can be used for filtering impurities, such as positively and negatively charged particles, from a liquid. Anionic membranes provide improved filtration of negatively charged impurities, while cationic membranes provide improved filtration of positively charged impurities.
