ANTIFOULING POLYMER FOR REVERSE OSMOSIS AND MEMBRANE COMPRISING SAME
The present invention provides a composite membrane suitable for liquid-liquid filtration/reverse osmosis. The invention also provides a copolymer useful in the composite membrane, the copolymer comprising an anchoring repeating unit and a foulant-repelling repeating unit, as well as methods for preparing the composite membrane and copolymers. In a preferred embodiment, a copolymer (P [SBMA-co-HEMA]) is synthesized via the free radical copolymerization of a zwitterionic monomer of sulfobetaine methacrylate (SBMA) and an anchoring monomer of hydroxyl ethyl methacrylate (HEMA).
SUPER-WET SURFACE AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREFOR AND APPLICATION THEREOF
A super-wet surface is a polypropylene surface, on which a hydrophilic side group is grafted, having a micro-nano structure. The super-wet surface is at least super-hydrophilic and does not contain an initiator residue. The super-wet surface is prepared by grafting, in the absence of an initiator, by means of microwave irradiation, a monomer for forming a side group, on the polypropylene surface, as a grafting base, having a micro-nano structure. In the preparation of the super-wet surface, the molecular weight of polypropylene does not decrease after grafting, there is no residual monomer or initiator residue, and the super-wetting effect of the obtained surface is lasting and stable. The super-wet surface can be used in bonding, spraying, oil-water separation, water treatment, biology, medicine and energy fields.
GAS SEPARATION MEMBRANES FROM POLYMER-GRAFTED NANOPARTICLES
Gas separation membranes as may be used in separating gaseous materials from one another and methods of forming the membranes are described. The separation membranes include polymer-grafted nanoparticles (GNPs) as a platform and a relatively small amount of free polymer. The free polymer and the polymer grafted to the nanoparticles have the same chemical structure and similar number average molecular weights. The gas separation membranes can exhibit high ideal selectivity and can be used in a variety of applications, such as carbon capture.
Asymmetric composite membrane and a method of preparation thereof
Asymmetric composite membranes and methods for their preparation are disclosed. The membranes comprise a cross-linked poly(vinyl alcohol) polymer coated on a film of cross-linked sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) adhered to a sheet of hydrophilicitized microporous polyolefin. The microporous polyolefin is typically microporous poly(ethylene). The membranes have improved selectivity with the regard to the rejection of solutes in reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration applications.
DURABLE GRAPHENE OXIDE MEMBRANES COMPRISING FUNCTIONALIZED SUPPORT COMPONENTS
Filtration apparatus including Graphene Oxide (GO) membranes are described herein. The GO membranes exhibit durability under harsh operation conditions including elevated temperatures, high pressure, and/or non-neutral pH. The filtration apparatus can include a GO membrane and a functionalized support including surface functional groups grafted to the functionalized support via a free radical co-polymerization approach. The filtration apparatus can exhibit improved performance (e.g., high rejection) in applications such as pulp and paper processing, which facilitates achieving permeate quality targets. The filtration apparatus described herein can also offer a more stable replacement for reverse osmosis membranes which are known to degrade under strongly alkaline conditions and high temperatures.
MEMBRANE WITH IMMOBILIZED ANTICOAGULANT AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING SAME
The present disclosure relates to an anticoagulant-coated microporous hollow fiber membrane showing reduced thrombogenicity. The disclosure further relates to a method for producing the membrane and a filtration and/or diffusion device comprising the membrane.
Graphene-based membrane and method of producing the same
A graphene-based membrane and a method of producing the same are disclosed. The graphene-based membrane may include a graphene-polymer composite, wherein the graphene-polymer composite may consist of an amine functionalized graphene and a polymer containing an anhydride group as a linker for linking the amine functionalized graphene to the polymer. The graphene-based membrane may be constructed of a single-layer. A method may include reacting a polymer containing an anhydride with an amine functionalized graphene in presence of a solvent to form an intermediate product; and thermal imidizing the intermediate product to form a graphene grafted polymer composite for use in fabricating a graphene-based membrane.
DUAL-LAYER MEMBRANE AND METHOD FOR PREPARING SAME
A dual-layer membrane and a method for preparing thereof. By adding a modifying monomer containing an active group and a characteristic group to a dope solution or spinning solution during the preparation of the dual-layer membrane, the grafting reaction occurs between the active group of the monomer and the polymer in the dope solution or spinning solution, and the intermolecular interaction with other polymers is enhanced by the characteristic group of the monomer, to improve the miscibility between the polymers. The method is suitable for preparing both a dual-layer flat sheet membrane and a dual-layer hollow fiber membrane, and can realize the preparation of a dual-layer membrane with an interpenetrated structure at the interface under mild preparation conditions.
CERAMIC NANOFILTRATION MEMBRANE WITH POLYMERS GRAFTED INTO THE PORES AND METHOD OF PRODUCING SAME
The present disclosure relates to a nanofiltration membrane and a method of manufacturing a nanofiltration membrane. The method includes providing a support structure having a first mesoporous layer made of TiO.sub.2 and/or ZrO.sub.2 and a second porous layer adjacent to the mesoporous layer made of aluminum oxide. The method further includes grafting an anchoring group within pores of the first mesoporous layer, wherein the second layer is inert to the grafting step. An initiator for a surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) reaction is covalently bonded to the anchoring group. The support structure is impregnated with a monomer and a solvent, and a polymerization reaction is performed, which includes passing a catalyst through the mesoporous layer, the monomer being configured to start the polymerization reaction by grafting from the initiator in the presence of the catalyst.
Hydrophobic polyethylene membrane for use in venting, degassing, and membrane distillation processes
Described is a polyethylene membrane and in particular an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene member that provides a high air permeability and is hydrophobic. The membranes have small pores and are suitable for sterilization by exposure to gamma radiation. The membranes can be made by methods that involve one or more of stretching the membrane and grafting hydrophobic monomers onto the membrane surface. A perfluorinated monomer, such as perfluoro-n-octyl acrylate, can be grafted to one or more surfaces of the membrane. The membrane have a high flow rate compared to unstretched or ungrafted membranes.
