Universal Planar Membrane Device for Mass Transfer
A membrane device is presented that can used for a wide range of applications from once-through filtration, crossflow filtration, molecular separation, gas/liquid absorption or reaction, gas dispersion into liquid, and degassing of liquid. The device comprises a thin flat sheet membrane that allows certain fluid or molecules go through while blocking others. The membrane sheet is fixed on a supporting structure with mini channel on two sides of the membrane for respective feed and sweep flows. The membrane sheet is sealed with gaskets with two cover plates that the membrane sheet can be replaced or cleaned. The cover plate provides connection ports to connect the feed fluid to the feed channels on one membrane surface and to connect the sweep fluid to the sweep channels on the other surface of the membrane.

HIGHLY METALLIC, HYDROPHILIC, POLYMER-FREE CARBON NANOTUBE (CNT) THIN SHEET AND USES THEREOF
The present disclosure is directed to the preparation of highly metallic, hydrophilic, polymer-free carbon nanotube (CNT) thin sheets with high tensile strength. The densified CNT sheet has reduced pore sizes, increased tensile strength, and improved electrical conductivity. The disclosed CNT materials can be used as filtration membranes with little or no propensity toward surface fouling. Such densified CNT sheets are also useful as superior electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials.
Method for manufacturing gas separation membrane
A method for producing a gas separation membrane, including the following steps: step (a): treating the surfaces of silica nanoparticles dispersed in a first solvent with a reactive functional group-containing compound, while nanoparticles are being dispersed in the solvent, to thereby prepare a first solvent dispersion of reactive functional group-modified silica nanoparticles; step (b): replacing the first solvent dispersion's dispersion medium of reactive functional group-modified silica nanoparticles prepared in step (a) with a second solvent without drying of dispersion medium, and then reacting functional group-modified silica nanoparticles with dendrimer-forming monomer or hyperbranched polymer-forming monomer in the second solvent's presence so that dendrimer or hyperbranched polymer is added to reactive functional group, to thereby prepare dendrimer- or hyperbranched polymer-bound silica nanoparticles; step (c): mixing dendrimer- or hyperbranched polymer-bound silica nanoparticles prepared in step (b) with a matrix resin; and step (d): applying mixture prepared in step (c) to a substrate, and then removing the solvent.
