A bone cement applicator comprising a cartridge with an internal space. The cartridge has a head with a dispensing opening for expulsion of bone cement, a dispensing plunger, a receptacle mobile in the cartridge, and a mixing rod with a mixer fastened to it and arranged in the internal space of the cartridge. The mixing rod is detachably connected, on a side opposite from the mixer, to a front side of the receptacle that faces the cartridge head. When the mixing rod is detached from the receptacle and the receptacle is propelled in the direction of the cartridge head the mixing rod can be pushed into the receptacle. A method is also disclosed for production of a bone cement using the bone cement applicator.

Pressure introduced through an opening in the proximal end moves the shaft such that the proximal plunger moves a fluid within the proximal chamber out of the first port and the distal plunger moves a fluid within the distal chamber out of the second port to simultaneously actuate a bone filler dispenser. The mixing rod is detachably connected to the receptacle and is guided through a feedthrough in the dispensing plunger and is supported in the feedthrough so as to be axially mobile. When detached from the receptacle, the mixing rod can be pushed into the receptacle when the receptacle is propelled in the direction of the cartridge head. A method is also disclosed for production of a bone cement using the bone cement applicator.

One aspect relates to a device for producing a bone cement paste from a monomer liquid and a cement powder as parent components of the bone cement paste and for delivering the mixed bone cement paste. The device has a cartridge with a cylindrical interior. The interior of the cartridge is closed at a front side apart from a delivery opening for discharging the bone cement paste. In the interior of the cartridge a delivery plunger is arranged which is pushable in the direction of the delivery opening. The cement powder is arranged in the interior of the cartridge between the delivery opening and the delivery plunger. A hollow cylinder is arranged at a front side of the delivery plunger facing the delivery opening. The hollow cylinder is open at its front face facing the delivery opening and extends from the front side of the delivery plunger at least 3 mm into the interior of the cartridge.

METHOD OF USING MANUAL MIXER

A manual mixer serves to facilitate mixing and agitating materials for use during surgery. The manual mixer includes a mixing assembly and an actuation assembly for actuating the mixing assembly. The mixing assembly includes at least a paddle portion and a plunger portion. The plunger portion is simultaneously capable of rotational movement with the paddle portion and movement upwardly or downwardly along the paddle portion. Rotation of the paddle portion serves to facilitate mixing and agitating of the materials, and downward movement of the plunger portion serves to facilitate dispensing of the materials from the manual mixer.

A filter is arrangeable in the cartridge head, in the feed-through and/or in the fluid line, wherein the filter is permeable to the monomer liquid and impermeable to the first parent component, wherein the plunger is spaced from a back side of the cylindrical interior, located opposite the front side, to an extent that, by moving the plunger in the direction of the back side, a reduced pressure is producible in the interior of the cartridge between the plunger and the cartridge head, wherein the reduced pressure is able to suck the monomer liquid out of the fluid line into the interior of the cartridge.
