Withdrawal system

A withdrawal system for withdrawing particulate matter from a high-temperature unit of a high-temperature industrial process is disclosed. The withdrawal system comprises a material storage silo that comprises a vent line containing a first vent valve, one or more temperature sensors to measure temperature of the particulate matter in the material transfer line, and a controller that receives output measurements from the one or more temperature sensors to monitor and control flow of the particulate matter. The system does not contain a receiving vessel located in the material transfer line between the high-temperature unit and the material storage silo.

The process can include preparing a catalyst slurry comprising a solid particulate catalyst and a carrier liquid in a catalyst slurry preparation system. The catalyst slurry preparation system can include a mixing vessel, a rotatable impeller system connected to the mixing vessel, and a motor connected to the rotatable impeller system. The rotatable impeller system can include an agitator shaft and a hub connected to the agitator shaft. The hub and at least a portion of the agitator shaft are positioned within the mixing vessel along a longitudinal axis of the mixing vessel, and the hub has at least three blades.

The present invention provides an integrated process for carbon dioxide capture, sequestration and utilisation, which comprises: a) providing an aqueous slurry comprising an aqueous liquid and a particulate solid comprising an activated magnesium silicate mineral; b) in a dissolution stage, contacting a CO.sub.2-containing gas stream with the aqueous slurry at a first pressure to dissolve magnesium from the mineral to provide a slurry comprising a magnesium ion enriched carbonated aqueous liquid and a magnesium depleted solid residue; and c) in a precipitation stage, precipitating magnesium carbonate from magnesium ions dissolved in step b) by multiple successive stage-wise reductions in pressure, with each stage being at a lower pressure than the preceding stage;
wherein each successive stage-wise reduction in pressure releases CO.sub.2 which is correspondingly stage-wise compressed and recycled back into the dissolution stage.

In this process and the device for continuous flow side-chain alkylation, an ibuprofen raw material is prepared with alkylbenzene as a raw material. This raw material alkylbenzene is easily available and has a low cost, and is suitable for scale-up production. Moreover, an entire preparation process adopts continuous chemical synthesis, and a reaction time of each stage can be precisely controlled, which is beneficial to control a total reaction time and reduce an amount of impurities produced. In this way, a purity and a yield of the ibuprofen raw material are improved. In summary, a continuous synthesis method for side-chain alkylation of alkylbenzene provided by the present disclosure shows a low cost and a high yield.

Method of enhancing hydration of viscosifiers using controlled mechanically induced cavitation

A method of hydrating a dry powdered viscosifier such as a powdered polymer is disclosed. The method includes mixing the powdered viscosifier with a solvent such as water to form a mixture; moving the mixture through a cavitation zone; inducing energetic shock waves and pressure fluctuations in the mixture by mechanically inducing cavitation events within the mixture, the shock waves and pressure fluctuations untangling, separating, and straightening polymer molecule chains and distributing the chains throughout the mixture, and extracting the resulting hydrated viscosifier from the cavitation zone.

Metastable state mixing

Metastable state spore incubation mixing systems are described. An example system includes a spore container to store spores, a nutrient container, an arrangement of valves and tubes, a reciprocating pump, a mixing tube, and a holding tank. In a drawing phase of the system, a controller can control the reciprocating pump to draw a ratioed volume of the spores, the nutrients, and water through the valves and tubes. During an expelling phase of the system, the controller can control flow control valves to direct the spores, nutrients, and water through the mixing tube and into the holding tank. The controller can also direct a heater to heat the mixture in the holding tank to a predetermined temperature. Once the mixture reaches the temperature, the controller can also direct the system through a number of other phases of operation, including cooling and purging phases.

A particular embodiment of the invention relates to a conveyor system (10) for conveying material (for example: particulate material such as a catalyst) from a particular storage area (such as drum (18)) to a second location (such as a reactor (13)). In accordance with the present embodiment of the invention, the conveyor system (10) is adapted to isolate from the environment the particular material to be conveyed; thus, avoiding that the particular material enters in contact with, for example, the atmosphere. Isolating the particular material is particular advantageous; because, for example, the isolation process suppresses activation of the material (such as the catalyst) due to coming in direct contact with the oxygen and moisture content of the atmosphere.
