The method includes forming a nanoparticle aerosol in a low pressure reactor, wherein the aerosol comprises MX-functional nanoparticles entrained in a gas, where M is an independently selected Group IV element and X is a functional group independently selected from H and a halogen atom. The method further includes collecting the MX-functional nanoparticles of the aerosol in a capture fluid, where the capture fluid is in fluid communication with the low pressure reactor. The capture fluid includes a polar aprotic fluid immiscible with water and having a viscosity of from 5 to 200 centipoise at 25° C. The capture fluid further includes a functionalization compound miscible with the polar aprotic fluid, the functionalization compound comprising a functional group Y reactive with the functional group X of the MX-functional nanoparticles.
Methods and systems for creating aerosols
A process of creating an aerosol includes coating at least one of a pair of counter-rotating, adjacent rollers with a fluid, the pair of counter-rotating rollers defining a nip therebetween, rotating the counter-rotating rollers to cause the fluid to be drawn into an upstream side of the nip, causing fluid filaments of the fluid to form on a downstream side of the nip, the fluid filaments stretching between respective surfaces of the pair of counter-rotating rollers and breaking into droplets on the downstream side of the nip, and harvesting the droplets at the downstream side of the nip.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR CREATING AEROSOLS
An aerosol creation system includes a pair of counter-rotating rollers, a nip between the two rollers, the nip having an upstream side and a downstream side, and a pool of fluid on the upstream side of the nip, the fluid being drawn into the nip through the motion of the rollers, such that on the downstream side the fluid stretches between diverging surfaces of the two rollers and forms filaments that breaks up into droplets. A multi-roller aerosol creation system includes more than two rollers arranged to touch each other in a configuration, wherein areas where the rollers touch form nips, each nip having an upstream side and a downstream side, wherein the downstream side of the nips are positioned within a central space within the configuration of the rollers, and fluid surrounding the circular configuration, wherein an outer region of the circular configuration forms the upstream side of the nips.

The invention relates to an aerosol product exposure system comprising an exposure chamber intended to receive an aerosol product, an aerosol product diffusion device comprising a source of aerosol product to be sprayed connected to an aerosol generator, said aerosol generator cooperating with a desiccator so as to at least partially eliminate the moisture from the aerosol product, at least one supply duct intended to bring the aerosol product into the exposure chamber. Such a system can in particular be used to test the integrity of a container and/or the antimicrobial activity of a product of interest.
Dryer for preparation of dry nanoparticles
A system for producing dry nanoparticles from a liquid includes a closed tubing system which incorporates a mister, heater and an electrostatic collector therein. The system is able to produce dry nanoparticles from liquid-suspensions and from solvent solutions.
Aerosolization method for producing solid product particles having desired characteristics from precursor particles
The present application provides aerosol processes for selectively incorporating properties of solid precursor particles into processed materials is provided. In one aspect, a carrier gas and a precursor mixture are injected into an aerosol generator. The precursor mixture includes solid precursor particles and a liquid component. One or more ultrasonic transducers are applied to the precursor mixture in the aerosol generator to aerosolize a portion of the precursor mixture that comprises solid particles that are smaller than a predetermined size. The aerosolized portion of the precursor mixture is transferred, via the carrier gas, into a reactor. The aerosolized portion in the reactor is then dried and sometimes reacted to produce solid product particles, and the solid product particles are collected in a particle collector.
