Process and apparatus for preparing biodegradable polyesters

There is described a process for preparing a biodegradable polyester from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and a diol where in a first reaction step the aromatic acid is esterified with the diol, and in a second reaction step the aliphatic acid is added to the reaction mixture. Furthermore, there is described an apparatus for carrying out this process.

METHOD OF RECOVERING SOLVENT AND SOLVENT RECOVERY APPARATUS

A method of recovering a solvent including: supplying polymerization reactants including one or more monomers and a solvent to a reactor to obtain a polymer solution; supplying a stream including the polymer solution to a separator to separate an upper discharge stream including the solvent, wherein the solvent is in a gaseous phase, and a lower discharge stream including the polymer solution; heating a divergence stream including a part of the lower discharge stream from the separator by a heating device and refluxing the divergence stream to the separator; supplying a residue stream including a remainder of the lower discharge stream from the separator to a steam stripping process unit; and adjusting a vapor mass fraction of the divergence stream which is refluxed to the separator with a pressure adjustment valve after being heated by the heating device.

Reuse and recycling for polymer synthesis

Reagents and solvents used for polymer synthesis are reused or recycled rather than discarded. The outflow from each step of polymer synthesis may be collected separately in one of multiple dedicated containers. Reuse returns the outflow from a step of polymer synthesis back to an input of a polymer synthesizer for subsequent use in that same step. Recycling processes the outflow from one or more steps of polymer synthesis to restore original concentrations or purity levels for use in a later synthesis run. Quality control analysis may determine if outflow collected from a polymer synthesizer is reused or recycled. These techniques reduce reagent cost and waste quantity. These techniques may be used with phosphoramidite or enzyme-based synthesis of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
