A magnetite level monitoring device for a magnetic filter in a central heating system, the magnetic filter including a separation chamber, an inlet to the chamber and an outlet from the chamber, and a magnetic element disposed within the chamber for attracting magnetic particles and removing the magnetic particles from the system water as it flows through the chamber, and the monitoring device including: a housing for placing adjacent to the outside of the separation chamber; a magnetometer mounted to the housing; a magnetic field guide mounted to the housing, the magnetic field guide being disposed between the magnetometer and the outside of the separation chamber, when the housing is mounted to the separation chamber; and output means adapted to issue a notification when the output from the magnetometer exceeds a predetermined threshold.
Label-free cellular manipulation and sorting via biocompatible ferrofluids
A device for separating a sample of cells suspended in a bio-compatible ferrofluid is described. The device includes a microfluidic channel having a sample inlet, at least one output, and a length between the sample inlet and the at least one output, wherein a sample can be added to the sample inlet and flow along the length to the at least one outlet. The device includes a plurality of electrodes, wherein the microfluidic channel length transverses the plurality of electrodes, and further includes a power source for applying a current to the plurality of electrodes to create a magnetic field pattern along the length of the microfluidic channel. The present invention also includes a method for separating at least one cell type. The method includes the steps of suspending cells in a bio-compatible ferrofluid to form a sample, passing the sample through a microfluidic channel that transverses a plurality of electrodes, applying a current to the plurality of electrodes to create a magnetic field pattern along the length of the microfluidic channel, and sorting the cells into at least one output channel based on a variation of at least one of cell size, shape and elasticity.

A gas purifying apparatus, including: at least one cylindrical ground electrode configured to receive gas flowing therethrough; a discharge electrode disposed centrally within each of the at least one cylindrical ground electrode; and a power supply electrically connected to the discharge electrode and the at least one cylindrical ground electrode so as to produce an electric field and a corona discharge from the discharge electrode to a corresponding cylindrical ground electrode to generate ions and free electrons into the gas to ionise substances in the gas for gas purification, wherein the discharge electrode and the corresponding cylindrical ground electrode form at least one plasma chamber when power from the power supply is applied, and wherein the discharge electrode includes: at least one annular plate having an outer edge extending towards the corresponding cylindrical ground electrode.
MEASURING MAGNETIC DEBRIS BUILDUP IN A MAGNETIC FILTER
A magnetic debris level measuring device for a magnetic filter is disclosed. The magnetic debris level measuring device includes a magnetometer and a temperature sensor. The temperature measured by the temperature sensor is used to calculate a corrected magnetometer reading, which in turn can be used to determine the amount of captured magnetic debris held within the filter. The device has a stored threshold for the corrected magnetometer reading, and when the corrected magnetometer reading crosses the stored threshold a notification is issued that the filter is full. If it is detected that debris continues to be captured after the full notification has been issued, the stored threshold will be updated accordingly.
Cleaning device for cleaning an air-ionizing part of an electrode
A cleaning device for cleaning an air-ionizing part of an electrode. The device comprises a cleaning member arranged to be in physical contact with the air-ionizing part of the electrode, the air-ionizing part of electrode and the cleaning member being arranged to slide relative to each other. The cleaning device further comprises an actuator arranged to activate the relative motion between the air-ionizing part of the electrode and the cleaning member. There is also provided an ionization electrode comprising the air-ionizing part and the cleaning device, as well as a ultrafine particle sensor, an air ionizer or an electrostatic air cleaner comprising such an electrode.

A particle detection element used to detect the number of particles in a gas includes: a casing having a gas flow passage through which the gas passes; an electric charge generating unit that imparts charges generated by a discharge to the particles in the gas introduced into the casing to thereby form charged particles; and a collecting unit including a collecting electrode that is disposed inside the casing and collects a collection target that is the charged particles or the charges not imparted to the particles. The casing has a reinforcing portion on at least one of an outer circumferential surface and an inner circumferential surface of the casing, and the reinforcing portion partially thickens a wall of the gas flow passage.
