MANUFACTURING METHOD OF THE OPERATION PIPE
A manufacturing method of an operation pipe, which use a gel to perform operations such as separation, extraction, purification, elution, recovery, analysis and the like of target components that are biological components such as nucleic acids. More specifically, a manufacturing method of an operation pipe, with which it is possible to perform operations such as separation, extraction, purification, elution, recovery, analysis and the like of target components in a sealable pipe by operating magnetic particles in the pipe under a magnetic field from outside of the pipe.
METHOD FOR PERFORMING A MAGNETIC SEPARATION PROCEDURE
A method for performing a magnetic separation procedure that includes transporting a receptacle containing a fluid medium to a first location of a system, where the fluid medium contains both a sample material and a suspension of magnetically-responsive solid supports. At the first location, the fluid medium is exposed to a first magnetic field for a first dwell period, thereby isolating the solid supports within the receptacle, where no portion of the fluid medium is removed from the receptacle at the first location. The receptacle is then transported from the first location to a second location of the system, where the fluid medium is exposed to a second magnetic field for a second dwell period. Following the second dwell period, at least a portion of the fluid medium is removed from the receptacle. A suspension fluid is then dispensed into the receptacle, and the contents of the receptacle are agitated to suspend the solid supports within the suspension fluid.

Fluidic apparatus for detection of a chemical substance, a biosensor and a method of fabricating the fluidic apparatus
A fluidic apparatus for detection of a chemical substance, a biosensor, and a method of fabricating the fluidic apparatus. The fluidic apparatus includes a fluidic structure arranged to receive a sample containing a target substance, and a trapping structure, in fluid communication with the fluidic structure and arranged to immobilize the target substance in a detection region, wherein the detection region of the trapping structure is arranged to alter a physical characteristic of an incident light signal which represents a concentration of the target substance contained in the sample.
Magnetic Device for Sorting Biological Objects
A magnetic device for processing biological objects including a soft magnetic center pole having a bottom end and a tapered tip end; first and second soft magnetic side poles disposed on opposite sides of the soft magnetic center pole and respectively having first and second bottom ends, the first and second soft magnetic side poles respectively having first and second top ends that bend inward toward the soft magnetic center pole with a first outward side of the first top end and a second outward side of the second top end being substantially coplanar; a magnetic flux source generating magnetic flux in the soft magnetic center pole and the first and second soft magnetic side poles; and a channel plate having a channel embedded therein and a first planar surface that is operable to be in contact with or in close proximity to the first and second outward sides.
Magnetic Separation Filters For Microfluidic Devices
A magnetic separation device has a membrane having a plurality of pores, a magnetically soft material layer disposed on the membrane, and a passivation layer disposed on the magnetically soft material layer. The magnetic separation device may be part of a microfluidic device having a lateral flow channel and a vertical flow magnetic separation filter. The magnetic separation device may be used to separate magnetically tagged particles, such as cells.
METHODS OF PENNING MICRO-OBJECTS USING POSITIVE DIELECTROPHORESIS
Methods of selectively positioning a micro-object in a microfluidic device are described in this application. The microfluidic device can comprise an enclosure having an inlet, an outlet, and a flow region connecting the inlet and outlet, and an electrode activation substrate having a photoconductive layer. The methods of selectively positioning can comprising: projecting a first light beam on an electrode activation substrate of the microfluidic device, wherein the first position is proximal to the first micro-object, and wherein the first light beam activates a positive dielectrophoresis (DEP) force within the enclosure sufficient to capture the first micro-object; and projecting a second light beam upon a second position on the electrode activation substrate, wherein the second position is adjacent to or at least partially surrounding the first position, without overlapping the first position, the second light beam activating a positive DEP force within the enclosure sufficient to capture second micro-objects other than the first micro-object. The methods of selectively positioning can further comprise moving the first light beam towards a third position on the electrode activation substrate, wherein the DEP force activated by the first light beam is sufficient to move the first micro-object to the third position. Optionally, the methods can include moving the second light beam in relation to the first light beam to prevent micro-objects other than the first micro-object from being captured by the first light beam. Other embodiments are described.
Compositions and methods for performing magnetibuoyant separations
The methods of the invention employ targeted magnetic particles, preferably targeted nanomagnetic particles, and targeted buoyant particles such as buoyant microparticles and microbubbles. Among the benefits of the invention is the ability to combine targeted magnetic particles with differentially targeted buoyant particles to achieve separation of two or more specifically cell targeted populations during the same work flow.
