Magneto-centrifugal flotation cell for concentrating materials which reduces water consumption and method of use

The invention relates to a magneto-centrifugal flotation cell for ore concentration which reduces water consumption. A disadvantage of conventional flotation cells is the use of a large amount of water, some flotation cells requiring at least 60% water. The present invention uses ore pulp with increased density and viscosity, owing to the application of an axial magnetic field, wherein the Lorentz force, which is the force exerted by an electromagnetic field that receives a charged particle or an electrical current, can be used. The solution is a cell which, in addition to the forces that usually act on conventional flotation cells, uses external forces which, in principle, produce synergy in the separation of ore particles that have different gravitational and magnetic properties.

PROCESS FOR RECOVERING CRUDE TALL OIL

A process and apparatus for recovering crude tall oil are disclosed. Acidulation of a crude tall oil soap stream generates a spent acid stream that comprises lignin and entrained crude tall oil. By subjecting the spent acid stream to dissolved gas flotation, a lignin phase comprising entrained crude tall oil can be recovered and causticized, resulting in recovery of most of the crude tall oil that was present in the spent acid stream. A clarified spent acid stream is also generated, which can be treated with caustic and utilized for a soap washing process that integrates easily into the overall CTO recovery process. The apparatus comprises a crude tall oil acidulation unit, a dissolved gas flotation unit, a causticizing unit, and a soap separation unit. The inventive process marries dissolved gas flotation, a well-known water treatment process, with causticization of a recovered lignin phase, a step known from batch acidulation, to improve overall tall oil recovery from a continuous process.

Non-flotation based recovery of mineral bearing ore using hydrophobic particle collection in a pipeline section

Apparatus uses hydrophobic synthetic beads to recover mineral particles in a slurry. The synthetic beads and the slurry are mixed into a mixture for processing. The apparatus has an interaction vessel installed in a section of pipeline. The interaction vessel is made from a pipeline folded or coiled into a compact struction having a continuous flow path. The interaction vessel has an input to receive the mixture of slurry and synthetic beads. The folded or coiled structure is used to increase the residence time of the mixture in the flow path, allowing more time for the mineral particles in the slurry to attach to the surface of the synthetic bead, while maintaining a small footprint. The interaction vessel may be formed from a number of loops of pipe section. The interaction vessel may be formed from one or more folded structures.

The invention relates to a rapid flotation device, in particular using dissolved air, for treating water laden with suspended matter (MES). The device comprises a mixing area (B) separated from a flotation area (C) by a wall (n) above which the liquid to be treated passes from the mixing area. The bottom portion of the flotation area comprises: a perforated floor (1) located above an apron (R), a floated-water discharge being provided under the floor and leading to an outlet system (3); and at least two separate channels (2) which are oriented in the direction of flow of the water and are provided under the floor (1), and under optional structures (w) extending from the floor, to a point upstream of the outlet system (3). The downstream end (2.1) of the channels is open and located above the floor level, and a discharge means (V) is provided, for each channel, at the end of the downstream bottom portion of said channel.

The methods and systems provide for the improvement in the separation of different portions of solids particles, such as bacteria, from a process stream. The methods use gas and control of fluid flow within a tank zone to provide for separation that is more selective.

Foam intercept system

A foam intercept system and a method of using the foam intercept system are disclosed herein. The foam intercept system is useful to control levels of foam generated on the surface of effluent seawater during aeration of the effluent seawater in a seawater aeration basin. Effluent seawater contained within the seawater aeration basin may be produced in a seawater flue gas desulfurization system associated with a power plant or an aluminum production plant.
