DILUTED BITUMEN FINE WATER DROPLETS CAPTURE
A method for processing bitumen froth comprised of bitumen, water containing chlorides and solids is provided for producing a final diluted bitumen product having reduced chlorides. In particular, fine water droplets containing chlorides that are present in raw diluted bitumen are captured by washing the raw diluted bitumen with low salinity water to produce the final diluted bitumen product having reduced chlorides.
METHOD OF OPERATING A CENTRIFUGAL SEPARATOR
A method of operating a centrifugal separator is provided. The method includes supplying a liquid mixture to be separated to the inlet of the centrifugal separator, separating the liquid mixture into at least one separated liquid component and a separated sludge component, discharging at least one separated liquid component from at least one liquid outlet of the centrifuge rotor, removing gas from a space surrounding a centrifuge rotor of the separator, to obtain a sub-atmospheric pressure in the space, and discharging a separated sludge component from at least one sludge outlet arranged at a periphery of the centrifuge rotor to the space which is delimited by a frame, wherein the discharging is performed when the sub-atmospheric pressure in the space surrounding the centrifuge rotor is within a preset pressure interval P.
Method and system for separation of suspensions
A method and system for separating a suspension into solid and fluid components. The suspension is centrifuged about a substantially vertical axis of rotation to concentrate solid components in a first lower flow stream and fluid components in a first upper flow stream. The first upper flow stream may be centrifuged about a substantially vertical axis of rotation to concentrate solid components in a second lower flow stream and fluid components in a second upper flow stream. The first lower flow stream, the second lower flow stream, or both, may be centrifuged about a substantially horizontal axis of rotation to separate water from stackable dry tailings. The method and system may be applied to separation of tailings or other suspensions.

ROTODYNAMIC SEPARATOR FOR MULTIPHASE FLUID WITHOUT A CENTRAL HUB
The invention relates to a rotodynamic separator (30) for separating a liquid and a gas from a multiphase fluid, notably for use in the petroleum industry. This separator comprises a cylinder (12) freely rotating about an axis (xx), a substantially axial inlet (1) for the multiphase fluid, a liquid outlet (5) and a gas outlet (6). At least one vane assembly (15) arranged along axis (xx), in the direction of circulation (F) of said multiphase fluid, is installed and integral with cylinder (12). Vanes (15) are directed towards axis (xx) of cylinder (12). Furthermore, the inside diameter of vanes (15) decreases progressively, in the part of the separator located upstream from the outlet of the second phase, in the direction of circulation of the multiphase fluid, while remaining larger than the inside diameter of gas outlet (6).
Apparatus with axially movable wall member for separating components of a fluid stream
A centrifugal separator apparatus for separating components of a fluid stream; the apparatus comprising a support structure and a centrifugal separator unit rotatably mounted on the support structure so as to be rotatable about a rotational axis extending through the centrifugal separator unit; a drive element for driving rotation of the centrifugal separator unit; wherein the centrifugal separator unit comprises a centrifugal separation chamber having an inlet which is connected or connectable to a source of fluid requiring separation, a first outlet for collecting a higher density component of the fluid stream, and a second outlet for collecting a lower density component of the fluid stream; the first outlet being connected or connectable to a first collector for collecting the higher density component and the second outlet being connected or connectable to a second collector for collecting the lower density component; the centrifugal separation chamber comprising a curved or inclined guide surface for guiding flow of the fluid from the inlet in a radially outward direction; wherein the centrifugal separator unit is provided with a wall member which is axially movable to provide a selected degree of occlusion of the first outlet and thereby control flow of the higher density component through the first outlet.
