Airborne particle detection with selective thermophoretic particle deflection
A method for analyzing particles in an air stream includes concentrating the particles in an interior region of the air stream and deflecting the concentrated particles in the air stream with a generated thermal gradient. Smaller particles in the air stream may be selectively deflected away from the interior region and towards a periphery of the air stream at a different rate than larger particles in the air stream. The generated thermal gradient may be controlled to deflect particles in a selected particle size range onto a surface of a particle detector. An effective mass of the collected particles and an aerosol mass concentration estimate of the particles within the selected particle size range may be generated. Systems for analyzing particles are also disclosed.

Control of a centrifugal separator
A centrifugal separator for cleaning gas containing contaminants includes a stationary casing enclosing a separation space through which a gas flow is permitted, a gas inlet extending through the stationary casing and permitting supply of the gas to be cleaned, a rotating member including a plurality of separation members arranged in said separation space and being arranged to rotate around an axis of rotation, a gas outlet configured to permit discharge of cleaned gas and including an outlet opening through a wall of the stationary casing, a drainage outlet configured to permit discharge of liquid impurities separated from the gas to be cleaned and an electrical motor for rotating the rotating member. The centrifugal separator further includes a control unit configured to control the operation of the electrical motor and to drive the electrical motor in at least two different operational modes and to further switch between operational modes depending at least on information of at least one measured internal parameter of the electrical motor.

AEROSOL AGING AND CONCENTRATING DRUM AND METHOD
A system with a rotatable drum and an exposure device configured to age and concentrate aerosol particles by simulating operational conditions. The system includes the rotatable drum; a port connected to the drum, an impactor with vacuum nozzles, the exposure device, and optionally an outlet port when the port is solely an inlet port. The port delivers the aerosol particles into the drum with the nozzles withdrawing air to increase the concentration of the particles. After aging and concentrating, evacuating the aerosol particles directly from the drum into at least one of an exposure chamber or a testing apparatus.

Method and installation for the reduction of sulphur oxides in exhaust gas from marine diesel engines
Methods and installations for treatment of exhaust gases from marine diesel engines, in particular for reduction of the sulphur oxides (SO.sub.x) in such gases, where the reaction products resulting from the mixing of an alkaline aerosol with the exhaust gases are separated-out by means of one or more rotating centrifugal separator rotors (20) of the kind comprising a stack of narrowly spaced separation discs (22).

Centrifugal deaerator for a turbomachine
The invention relates to a centrifugal deaerator for an air/oil mixture of a turbomachine, comprising: an annular housing (10) for the centrifugal separation of said mixture, arranged around a hollow shaft (11); axial inlets (14) for the flow of said air/oil mixture into said housing (10); a pinion (20) for rotating said housing (10); and radial oil outlets (15) and oil-free air outlets (16), characterised in that it comprises a metal foam (50) housed in said housing (10) by partially extending along the axial direction (XX′) so as to define two successive spaces, a foam-free space (51) and a foam-lined space (52), said foam-free space opening up towards said axial inlets. A device can be advantageously added to the hollow shaft in order to reduce the free-vortex phenomenon and to thereby significantly reduce the load losses of the deaerator.
