A centrifugal separator for cleaning a gas containing liquid impurities includes a stationary casing including a surrounding sidewall, a first end wall and a second end wall which enclose a space through which a gas flow is permitted. The space includes an upper separation chamber and a lower discharge chamber. The separator further includes an inlet extending through the stationary casing and permitting supply of the gas to be cleaned to the separation chamber, a rotating member including a stack of separation discs and being arranged to rotate around an axis of rotation, wherein the stack of separation discs is arranged in the separation chamber and a drive member for rotating the rotating member. The discharge chamber is arranged axially below the stack of separation discs such that clean gas and separated liquid impurities both enter said discharge chamber after being separated in said stack of separation discs, and further, the separator includes a gas outlet configured to permit discharge of cleaned gas from said stationary casing, wherein the gas outlet includes an outlet opening through the stationary casing and a portion extending from the outlet opening into the discharge chamber. Further, there is a drainage outlet arranged in said discharge chamber and configured to permit discharge of separated liquid impurities from said stationary casing.

A circumferential wall encloses the rotor. A raw gas flow is guided axially into the rotor. A clean gas flow is guided out of the rotor and then between the rotor and the circumferential wall to the clean gas outlet. The rotor comprises particle separation elements so that particles separated from the gas flow are centrifuged onto the circumferential wall. The circumferential wall particles are guided to the particle outlet via at least one particle guide trough running diagonal to the rotor axial direction on the interior of the circumferential wall. A radius of each trough as well as the distance between the rotor and the circumferential wall decreases in the direction of the clean gas flow.

A centrifugal rotor is arranged to be rotatable in the frame around a rotational axis and includes a separating member. A central gas chamber in the rotor communicates with a radially inner portion of the separating member and the gas outlet. A space surrounding the rotor communicates with a radially outer portion of the separating member and the gas inlet. A drive provides rotation of the centrifugal rotor for separating particles from the gas stream being conducted from the space surrounding the rotor, through the separation member and towards the central gas chamber. A ring-formed sealing arranged between and in sealing contact with the first frame portion and the centrifugal rotor. This improves the separation performance of a centrifugal separator for separation of particles from a gas stream, by reducing pressure losses and leakage from the central gas chamber.
