Centrifuge system for separating cells in suspension
A method and apparatus for separating cell suspension into centrate and concentrate includes a solid wall rotatable centrifuge bowl (82). A single use rotatable core (88) is positioned in the bowl and bounds a cavity (90) which serves as a separation chamber. The bowl rotates about an axis (84). An inlet tube (92) and an outlet tube (102) extend along the axis in the bowl cavity. The centripetal pump (98) in the cavity is in connection with the outlet tube. The centrate discharge pump (120) is in connection with the outlet tube. A pressure damping reservoir (122) is fluidly connected between the outlet tube and the discharge pump. At least one control circuit (142) is operative to control the apparatus to maintain a positive pressure above atmospheric pressure within the cavity, so as to maintain the cell suspension away from at least one seal (106) that bounds the interior of the cavity.

Method for sample separation and collection
A centrifuge device and method for use are presented. The centrifuge device includes a housing, a chamber, a channel, and a cover. The housing includes a first port and a vent opening and is designed to rotate about an axis passing through a center of the housing. The chamber is defined within the housing and is coupled to the first port. A first portion of the chamber has a width that tapers between a first width at a first position and a second width at a second position within the chamber, the first width being greater than the second width. The channel is coupled to the second position of the chamber and arranged such that a path exists for gas to travel from the channel to the vent opening. The cover provides a wall that seals the chamber.

METHOD OF OPERATING A CENTRIFUGAL SEPARATOR
A method of operating a centrifugal separator is provided. The method includes supplying a liquid mixture to be separated to the inlet of the centrifugal separator, separating the liquid mixture into at least one separated liquid component and a separated sludge component, discharging at least one separated liquid component from at least one liquid outlet of the centrifuge rotor, removing gas from a space surrounding a centrifuge rotor of the separator, to obtain a sub-atmospheric pressure in the space, and discharging a separated sludge component from at least one sludge outlet arranged at a periphery of the centrifuge rotor to the space which is delimited by a frame, wherein the discharging is performed when the sub-atmospheric pressure in the space surrounding the centrifuge rotor is within a preset pressure interval P.

CENTRIFUGAL SEPARATOR HAVING ENERGY CONSUMPTION REDUCING DEVICES
The invention relates to a centrifugal separator comprising a casing which delimits and seals off a space in which a rotor is arranged. The rotor forms a separation space which is sealed or isolated from the space, and in which separation space centrifugal separation of a higher density and a lower density component from a fluid takes place. An inlet extends into the rotor for introducing fluid to the separation space, and a first outlet extends from the rotor for discharge of a component separated from the fluid. The space is connected to a pump device which is arranged to remove gas, thereby maintaining negative pressure in said space. The rotor comprises at least one second outlet extending from the separation space to the space for discharge of at least one higher density component separated from the fluid. The invention also relates to a method in such a centrifugal separator.
