Methods and systems for creating aerosols
Aerosols can be created by filament stretching and breaking of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids by applying a strain to and stretching the fluid. The fluid is stretched along a strain pathway and forms a fluid filament between diverging surfaces. The stretched fluid filament breaks into droplets that can be harvested to form a mist or aerosol. The aerosol creation systems can include one or more pairs of counter-rotating rollers that are positioned adjacent to each other that stretch the fluid or a pair of pistons that move toward and away from each other to stretch the fluid. Some aerosol creation systems can include multiple pairs of counter-rotating rollers that are positioned in a circular, oval, or linear pattern. The aerosol creation system with multiple pairs of counter-rotating rollers can generate mist is one or more directions and can be positioned between two concentric rings or linearly, among other configurations.
FLUID DELIVERY ALIGNMENT SYSTEM
Aspects of the invention include a device for fluid delivery to the ocular surface having a self-alignment system. The fluid delivery device includes a fluid package having a reservoir and one or more apertures, an actuator component configured to eject fluid from the reservoir through the one or more apertures and an image-based self-alignment system configured to align fluid ejected through the one or more apertures with a target location on the eye of a user. Also provided are methods of using the devices in fluid delivery applications, as well as a kit that includes components of the devices.
Controlling meniscus position for magnetohydrodynamic metal manufacturing
Devices, systems, and methods are directed to applying magnetohydrodynamic forces to liquid metal to eject liquid metal along a controlled pattern, such as a controlled three-dimensional pattern as part of additive manufacturing of an object. Electric current delivered to a meniscus of the liquid metal in a quiescent state can be directed to exert a pullback force on the liquid metal. The pullback force can be sufficient to draw the liquid metal, in the quiescent state, in a direction toward the nozzle to reduce the likelihood of unintended wetting of surfaces of the nozzle between uses of the nozzle.
HANDHELD FILAMENT EXTENSION ATOMIZER FOR PRECISION DELIVERY OF DRUGS AND THERAPEUTICS
A docking station for a hand-held filament extension atomizer device includes a receiver to receive the device, station electronics, a recharging point for the device arranged to connect with a power source of the device, a power connection to an alternating current power source, and a cleaning reservoir of cleaning solution. A method of operating hand-held dispenser to dispense fluid as a mist includes receiving a signal at a motor contained in a casing in response to a user triggering an actuator on the casing, activating the motor to provide fluid to a filament extension atomizer contained in the case from a reservoir contained in the casing, the motor to cause the filament extension atomizer to generate a mist, and using an air source contained in the casing arranged adjacent the filament extension atomizer to provide air flow to direct the mist to a nozzle that is arranged to allow the mist to exit the casing.
