A method of applying heat shield material to form a heat shield layer on a crown surface of a piston of an engine is provided. The method includes the steps of disposing a dispenser that linearly discharges the heat shield material toward the crown surface, and moving an applied position of the heat shield material with respect to the crown surface in a circumferential direction of the crown surface, while discharging the heat shield material from the dispenser toward the crown surface.

A substrate processing apparatus includes a substrate holder, a processing liquid supply and a cover unit. The substrate holder holds a substrate horizontally and rotate the substrate. The processing liquid supply supplies a processing liquid toward a first surface of the substrate held by the substrate holder. The cover unit faces a second surface of the substrate, the second surface being opposite to the first surface. The cover unit includes a heater configured to heat the substrate. The cover unit is provided with an opening at a position corresponding to a central portion of the substrate and multiple gas supply openings, at an outer peripheral side than the opening, through which a gas is supplied toward the second surface of the substrate. The gas is heated by the heater. A supply amount of at least some of the gas is adjusted based on a rotation speed of the substrate.

A method of applying an air barrier material to an inner surface of a tire includes steps of: (a) performing a post-cure inflation of the tire; (b) placing the tire onto a dump gate platform after finishing the post-cure inflation of the tire; and (c) spraying the air barrier material onto the inner surface of the tire while the tire is on the dump gate platform.

Another step includes exposing the mask and the second surface to a solution comprising a polymer and a solvent, wherein the solution dewets from the mask and the polymer collects onto the second surface to form a polymer coating over the second surface without forming a polymer coating on the first surface.

A post-cure inflation machine for processing a tire may include a tire holder shaft. The tire holder shaft may include a chuck to secure the tire to the tire holder shaft. A hollow passage may be defined in the tire holder shaft. A spray nozzle may be connected to a spray shaft that is telescopically disposed in the hollow passage of the tire holder shaft. The spray nozzle may extend to spray an air barrier material onto the tire.

Methods of producing an additive manufactured part with a smooth surface finish and customized properties include creating a compensated design that serves as a print recipe for an additive manufacturing process for a part, where the creating comprises modifying a desired design with a geometric offset correction to compensate for a first portion of an uncured surface finish material to be retained on the part. A spinning device is provided that has a platform. The part is formed with the additive manufacturing process and secured to the platform, where the part is at least partially wetted with the uncured surface finish material. The platform is rotated, where a second portion of the uncured surface finish material is removed due to forces imparted by the rotating. The uncured surface finish material is chosen to customize a property of the part.
